Anyone with like or legal experiance.

Does Non-secured GST debt of an Alberta corporation fall under the 24 month statute of limitations for Alberta?

I once saw a store advertising the GST when it first came out...

Didn't Paul Martin say he would do away with the GST if he was made P.M.?

I'm sort of surprised the population just accepted the GST when it was first brought in, sure I guess a few people went out and protested but I don't really remember anything to major happening.

That was Jean Chretien that promised to "abolish" the GST way back in 1993. The GST was not a new tax, it replaced the hidden Manufacturer's tax.

honestly i'd like to see instead of just lowering the GST by 1% which doesn't really give any tangible benefit, raise the GST to a nice even math number like 10% and lower the income tax. that way i could always figure out quickly in my head exactly what i'd pay for something and get to look at a bigger number on my paycheque every week

Yeah, it did replace the Manufacturer's tax but it also added the Services tax. I also think it was a boon to retailors as I don't remember them droping prices to reflect the ending of Manufacturer's tax but just added on the GST. Everybody at the time hated it, especially in Alberta, and some tried to stop it but the GST was pushed through and led to the destruction of the Conservative Party. That's how I remember it.

They should lower it to 5% sooner rather than later as well as raise the personal excemption amount to around $12,000 at the federal level and the provincial government should eliminate health care premiums for all Albertans.
