I guess a Calgary R.E.M tour stop has been rumoured for some time, with more info in today's herald suggesting a November 17 tour stop that will 'officially' be announced in September
This is supposed to be a small venue/theater tour, but given the fact the band hasn't played Calgary in over 20 years I would imagine they might fill quite a large venue
anyways while I am sure R.E.M. is either too pedestrian or mainstream for many on these boards...I"ve been a big fan for 20 years, so I'm excited about the prospect of seeing them

Boy would that ever be cool if they came to the Dome. Monster was one of the first albums I bought as a kid. I would listen to REM any time it was on.

This would be great. I've been waiting for them to finally come here for so long.

REM's website says Nov 17 at the Saddledome.
A friend of mine was a big REM fan during the band's early days. I remember listening to Radio Free Europe. That was 20 years ago.
Now I feel old.

I was a huge REM fan for years, and then I saw them on their Monster tour. It was one of the most boring concerts I've ever seen. And one of the most expensive. Our tickets were in the $150 range for their Gorge in George concert (Best outdoor venue in the world IMO). Meanwhile U2 was selling tickets for $45 that same year. Selling tickets for that much seemed to go against everything I thought they were about. I was so turned off by their uninspired performance and high ticket prices, that I can't really say I've ever enjoyed listening to one of their songs since.

Where's the Edmonton date?
Does Edmonton rank below Thunder Bay? I guess so. :P

You were on board before me, and before most REM fans I would imagine. I was firmly on board the very first time I heard "The One I Love" which was the first REM song I heard that I knew was REM. I worked back from there. I love everything they did until Monster.
The old stuff is the best though.....Green and back.

well if I'm being honest I didn't quite pick up the ball then
I was only 13. I happened to be up late watching TV (why I'm not sure), and thought 'wow, cool song'
but of course I didn't know how to find stuff that wasn't on mainstream radio...so I went back to listening to the Police, Men at Work and Split Enz
I got on board full time, like you, circa document
I think they've got great albums throughout their career with Murmur, Life's Rich Pageant, Document, Green, Automatic and Reveal probably my favorites...although I like them all
'at my most beautiful' from Up was our wedding song

All I can get

I saw then first on that old Mike Bezzeg Community Cable Show (the local equivalent to Waynes World back when). They played MacEwan Hall I believe circa 1983-84.
Remember the Letterman appearance too.

Good old FM Moving Pictures, Mike Bezzeg and James Muretich.
The first reguler music video show in Calgary.
I saw REM in Vancouver 94.
I liked their older stuff.

the remHQ website seems to imply tickets are already onsale, which would appear highly unlikely if not impossible
however if anyone hears anything about ticket sales that I somehow miss, please let me know
