Default Randy Couture Quits the UFC

The Fight Network just announced that Couture has quit the UFC, speculation is that he will be heading to the M-1 promotion that recently signed Fedor, they are also making an anouncement about selling the M-1 organization to a US business man/Entertainment group at the end of the month which many believe will be Mark Cuban.

Interesting days in the world of MMA

Yeah, he was the face of the UFC for years, not good for them that he quits while he's champ.

If the UFC had only agreed to let Fedor fight in combat sambo events in Russia, this wouldn't have happened. Good for Randy.

If Couture has 4 fights left in his contract with UFC, I wonder if he can fight Fedor Emelianenko outside of UFC?

Dana's little hissy fit statement makes it sound like he can't fight anywhere or under any organization.

How is that a hissy fit statement? All he said is that he's under contract and if he plans to fight he has to fight in the UFC til his contract is up

yahoo sports

Decent story on yahoo sports about the situation. I think it's probably a smart move for Couture. Aside from beating Fedor Emeliankenko, he's got nothing left to prove in the sport. Why hang around in the UFC beating up chumps or, as has proven to be the case lately with other highly touted fighters, lose to what is often perceived to be a lesser opponent? Go out on top, move on to something else and hold your head high.

This is what I think as well. He is 44 years old and has beaten everyone except Fedor. If the UFC can't get him the last fight that matters than why stick it out until the end of the contract.

Its too bad, as a fan I've always liked Randy and his insight into the fights, but this is probably best for him.

I'll miss him as a fighter, but his insight was head and shoulders above Rogan or those other clowns.

I didn't realize he was working on a movie career until I read the article. Interesting. I always enjoyed his ringside commentary on PPV events but, given the way this breakup with the UFC progressed, I doubt we'll get to hear him do that anymore.

I think you're going to see a strong backlash against Dana White in the near future. There is WAY too much drama surrounding him. He's too much Vince McMahan - he's on screen far too often.

Step away from the spotlight Dana and instead point it towards your atheletes.

Randy has one great fight left in him, MAYBE two at the outside. He could beat up schlubs for another year or two yet, but I don't think he has any chance at beating Fedor unless he fights him soon. It's the best move in his career. If he beats Fedor, beats the Machine, then he will go down as perhaps the best of all time.
