Futons in Calgary
Can anyone recommend a good place to get a nice futon?

I don't know about good, but IKEA sells them. They are pretty basic futons.

Yeah, I'm looking for something that isn't going to look like a piece of shinguard. IKEA often looks pretty shady IMO.

Oh man, I forget the name of the place but there was a store just across the street (south) of the old Costco. No idea if it's still there though. I bought my first one (again, forget the name but it was on Haddon Rd) that had awesome futons.

Try "Futons for Less (1983) Ltd" on 14th street NW. Their futons are very well constructed.

Actually what you need to do is go down to Marie's Futon Shop, she'll even get on the Futon with you, just kidding. There's Futon-orama in 6th and 8th, and the Futon Shop on 9th and 7th. Actually they're all in the Futon district.
Now if you don't mind killing somebody on the way out, you'd really be helping me out.

^^ Actually, I'm also thinking about a hammock room in my new place unless I get a roommate. I'll head over to the hammock district to get that.

i got my nice, solid wood futon from United a few years ago. their selection was rather limited (they only had 5-6 if i remember correctly) but they did have one that was perfect for what i needed, so you may want to drop by there if you have the chance

My folks have a futon from there that is currently serving as my bed while I'm visiting them. Very comfortable and looks really good.

I would second this. I just went through the process of trying to find a futon here in town and this place is far and away the best in terms of quality. The guy who owns the shop is a crazy old hippie, but he really knows futons. He only sells mats made with quality material so they will last much longer. They might cost a bit more, but they are worth it. Get as thick a mat as you can afford, don't try to save on the mat, instead try to find a cheaper frame.

A couple of years ago, we bought a futon at FFC. It was right across the street from the South Costco (where Trail Appliances is now), but it seems to have gone out of business.
The futon is great and the mattress is really good.
It doesnt help you much I guess since I think they are closed. But, if they just moved or changed names or something, they would have good futons.
