Default Salami and Cheese: Swirsky's Finished In Toronto

Sad, sad news. IMO, he's the best homer pbp guy in any sport. Shame he's going to to be calling games for the Bulls.

Everyone has their own opinions and I personally didn't like him at all. From being a complete homer to making up some of the most random basketball sayings since "Boom goes the dynamite!" (which is 1000% better than "Get out the salami and cheese" and "Onions baby, Onions!" combined).

Maybe I'll actually be able to watch a Raptors game with the volume up next year...

Yes his saying didn't make any sense, but what I enjoyed about his style was that it wasn't about himself. He really didn't come across as having an ego. He really just seems like a down to earth dude. I'll really miss the guy. He's more of a face of the franchise than any person in the organization IMO.

I'll really miss the guy, he brought a lot of personality to the games and really kept things interesting.

Raps broadcasts will be much worse without him.

With Jamie Campbell and Rance Muliniks Toronto will still have its fair share of homer broadcasters. Throw in the radio (Wilner) and print media and the homers in TO still outnumber any sports town when it comes to the Jays and Raps.

Personally I couldn't stand Swirsky's homerism or stupid comments, but I can see how he would be appealing to Raptor fans and I did like his overall enthusiasm for the game.

It seems like it will be a loss for the Raptors fans and organization but a gain for fans of other teams and general good broadcasting in Canada.

Not a basketball fan, so can't really comment on the broadcasting side. I am in my car all day a few times a week and listen to THe Fan 590 and I really respect that an American, basketball guy took the time to:

a) even bother hosting a radio show on a Canadian sports radio station.

b) learn about, follow and be able to talk intelligently about hockey, fCFL football and Jays baseball.

c) and probably the biggest thing was that he loved it so much in Toronto that he and his family became Canadian citizens.

That last one made me respect him a lot. He did not need to do that. It's also why this move surprised me a lot. I know Chicago is his home town, but it's kind of a step down to radio broadcasts. I suspect they threw buckets of money at him.

Plus, how can you not like a guy with a serious addiction to Blizzard's from Dairy Queen?

This is awesome news I simply cannot stand the way this man calls a game

If I where a Raptors fan I would be embarrassed by his homerism and over the top antics

I recall during the regular season when the Raptors beat the Celtics, by the call he made at the end of the game you would have thought the Raptors had just won the NBA championship going un defeated and that every player on the team was going strait too the basketball hall of fame

The man is a embarrassment to play by play men every where

It's a raptors broadcast, I'd expect the homerism. Kind of like the fan 960 calling hockey games.

Chuck was awesome.
