Default Florida Lawyer Trying to get Halo 3 declared a public nuisance

Jack Thompson, a lawyer in Florida is trying to get Halo 3 declared a public nuisance and thus block its release. He's trying to use a law meant for prostitution and gambling. He tried the same thing last year with a game called "Bully" and failed miserably. The author of the article is worried that its the essence of censorship and the video game industry should do something about it.

This guy seriously needs a hobby. Perhaps wicker furniture weaving.

If that were passed I think CP would qualify as a public nuisance. It is certainly setting my education back, I should be studying right now.

That was hilarious. Someone took him up on his $10,000 challenge, and he then said the people that programmed it have no life and are too stupid to realize he was only joking.

i never thought i'd say it but this guy is crazier than ann coulter, the late jerry falwell and pat robertson...combined!!

ok maybe not THAT crazy but he should definately be shot into space or something. what a cancer on this planet. somethimes free speech isn't what its cut out to be especially when you have to hear about idiots like this.

just noticed this classic entry in his wiki article:

"In sending documents to opponents, Thompson would frequently attach a photocopy of his driver's license, with a photo of Batman pasted over his own, just to make sure they knew who they were dealing with. Thompson said, "I have sent my opponents pictures of Batman to remind them I'm playing the role of Batman. Just like Bruce Wayne helped the police in the movie, I have had to assist the sheriff of Broward County.""

I agree, the criteria they use for astronauts is totally bogus, we should deport of all earth's crazies to the moon. Set up a little penetentiary up there, we could call it: Moon Unit Crazy.

These people receive power through attention. This guy will go away until Halo 4 comes out.

Thompson's "high-profile crusades" have made him an enemy of video game aficionados.[60] On occasion, Thompson has sparred directly with the gaming industry and its fans. In 2005, he wrote an open letter to Entertainment Software Association president Doug Lowenstein, making what he described as a “a modest video game proposal” (an allusion to the title of Jonathan Swift's satirical essay, A Modest Proposal) to the video game industry: Thompson said he would donate $10,000 to a charity designated by Take-Two CEO Paul Eibeler if any video game company would create a game including the scenario he described in the letter. The scenario called for the main character, whose son was killed by a boy who played violent video games, to murder a number of industry executives (including one modeled on Eibeler) and go on a killing spree at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Video game fans promptly began working to take Thompson up on his offer, resulting in the game I'm O.K - A Murder Simulator. Afterwards, he claimed that his proposal was satire, and as of September 2007, he has not made his proposed donation.

There's a problem though. In such a case, the measure of damages would be to put the plaintiff in the position he or she would have been in but for the intervention of the Halo creators. So you have to consider the number of sexual encounters these guys would have had but for Halo and chances are...it's probably not a lot.

Direct correlation to the value of his word.

He didnt keep it therefore his current words mean nothing.

Get a hobby. Or better yet, get a real job, you're wasting your law degree Mr. Thompson.

More ambulance chasing and less lip-flapping.
