Ebay Question
Hey got a question for you frequent Ebay-ers out there who have bought stuff off sellers from the States before. I bought a jersey off a guy and sent him all the appropriate info on Sunday. I see by my tracker that he notified U.S. Postal about it the next day, so Monday, September 17th. It cost me $24.99 to have it shipped, and it says its UPS Express, which takes one to two business days, but it may get slowed down going across customs.
So my question is, for those of you who have used this before, how long did it take you to receive your item? Not that I think its been awhile or anything, I just want it for the Saints Monday Nighter against the Titans and Im curious how long it generally takes. Thanks for the help guys!

Which method of shipping did he end up using?

I think UPS Worldwide Express Plus, that seemed to be the only option if you're outside the States. It says its $24.99 to ship that way, and thats exactly what shipping cost me, so Im assuming that.

I can only imagine how much business these companies are doing now shipping wise. I hardly ever buy anything locally, shopping in the US/Ebay is the way to go these days.
Since I have essentially been shopping this way for the last couple of years, I found it can take anywhere from 6 to 10 days total to ship from the US. Next time ask them if they can ship USPS, thus to avoid brokerage fees. You can even try and request DHL shipping as well.

Neither will I. UPS uses their owner brokerage and it rapes you.
I had a bad experience with FedEx this last week too, but that was because it was coming to Lethbridge. Heads up for Lethbridge residence.

Forgive me for possibly sounding stupid, but what are brokerage fees, and are you saying Im going to get charged on top of the $24.99 shipping Ive already had to spend?

Yes, you will likely get charged. I don't know how they figure out what you pay, but you pay quite a bit. I too won't buy something being shipped UPS, as I've been surprised by the amount in the past. You aren't going to be paying hundreds of dollars, but be prepared to pay something.

I've had little dealings, however my patch I ordered for my cowboy hat took only a few days to come. I got it quicker than I had anticipated I ordered it on a Saturday night, and I had it the following Thursday I believe, and that was standard shipping.
Mind you it's a lot smaller and fits nicely into an envelope, your Titan's jersey might take a bit longer

Just got an invoice today from UPS. Shipping, item, taxes, exchange, etc came out to $100CAD. Then I get an invoice for $40 for brokerage. I can't assume that brokerage fees are 40%, can I? Last time I use UPS.

Sounds about right. And I think it is usually a COD fee isn't it? Pay it, or don't get your item. Bull is what it is.

basically when it comes across the border if there is duty or GST to be paid (which there always is GST) UPS pays those fees for you then charges you a surcharge for doing it. Canada Post does it too but it's usually about 2 dollars.
I bought some christmas ornaments online, when it came through i got charged 5 dollars in GST and then 2 bucks for their troubles. That seemed reasonable.
a few years ago I bought a playboy hat shipped through fedex, it ended up costing me over 20 dollars in fees for a 25 dollar hat.
If you are using ebay for US goods, make sure they send through the US postal service that way you shouldn't get hammered on brokerage fees....or just buy from a canadian seller.

That's too bad that you had to sent via UPS vs USPS. UPS has their own customs brokerage which rapes you with fees unless it is the highest level of shipping.
So while you might get it fast, it'll be more expensive. UPS brokerage fees are 30-100% of the value of the actual item!!!

I believe one of the UPS services (Express I think) bundles the brokerage fees in the cost of shipping, so there's no fee to you the buyer.
UPS Standard from the US will rape you for sure.

It took me about 3 days to receive it, but it could be up to a week. (5 days) It's kind of hard to determine, as it varies quite wildly.

NEVER use UPS to bring things into Canada.
Make sure they use US Postal Service. It's cheaper, faster and there is no stupid ass broker fees.
Yes I work for them, but I also know this to be true from experience shipping across the border.
UPS is slow domestically, I can only imagine how much slower they are internationally.
