Default Male Eating Disorders

An odd spin from the Britney Spears thread, I saw some news about the Britney MTV Fat stuff flying around and it talked about self image and eating disorders affecting both men and women.

Anyway, people don't really ever talk about males with eating disorders. I think the only time I can recall seeing/reading something it had to do with Jockey's or Wrestlers.

Thought I'd start a topic - surely girls have discussed this a lot, or witnessed it a lot, but guys?

I used to have one....but found out that if you force yourself to eat less for at least a couple weeks...the craving goes away.

Drinking a lot of water helps too. And eating protein high foods as well.

My eating disorder involves copious amounts of liquid bread, followed by a helping of CP posting.

I've seen one adolescent case. It's definitely much more common for females, but it is increasing in prevalence amongst homosexual males.

Come on, lets not bring emo kids into this, they have enough problems.

All jokes aside, I believe eating disorders can afflict either gender equally. Whom does it affect more? Probably women, but I'm way too lazy to check those stats...in the mean time, I'm going to sit here, drink beer and eat a cheeseburger. Let me know what you find out.....

I don't have an eating disorder, but because of my size (I'm an incredibly skinny individual) people often assume that I do. Which I find mildly insulting when coming from strangers.

One thing I'd like to know is why it's not socially acceptable to bring up a fat person's weight and quiz them on it, but it's perfectly ok to walk up to a skinny person and say "wow you're skinny" "do you eat?" and "you must be a vegitarian, are you?"

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer to be underweight and healthy, than overweight and healthy, but I find the double standard ammusing.

I think over-eating is a disorder but it is so common that it is just ignored and dismissed as poor will power.

I'm skeptical of anyone who reportedly consumes that much cookies and keiths claiming not to have an eating disorder.....

Pretty much.

It actually shocks me how many obese people I see in town these days.

Even kids from school that were in pretty darn good shape when I graduated...they're all fat now.

I've seen that also, I know one guy who is so skinny he is known as "Skinny" not by his given name, the thing is he eats and drinks like a fish and gains no weight whatsoever.

Ya my best friend is like that, we gave him the nickname "Indian Dog" because he is nothing but ribs and balls. He can eat and drink as much as he wants and gain nothing.

Then there is me who has to work my ass off and eat healthy if I want to stay in shape. Its not fair

It's weird. I was a huskier kid in high school and I've lost damn near 40 pounds since I graduated, but everyone else I seem to run into has put on weight.

Overactive motabolism, it's great (in most cases).

I can eat all the cookies I want, plus drink lots of beer. The matobolism breaks down the alcohol so I can keep drinking at a steady pace. However I recently discovered after the Joel Plaskett Emergency concert last Monday that I now wake up with a splitting headache after a couple of pitchers of beer. Stupid getting old!

There's definitely groups of teenage guys who don't eat enough so they can fit into those size 23 waist tight jeans.

It always seems to be a style that causes it.

I'm proud to state that I'm winning the war on anorexia.

But, man, when I was in my teens, early twenties, was I skinny. Just elbows and teeth. When I quit smoking at 28, I started to gain weight. I've had to watch what I eat ever since.
