What do you guys think my TV is worth
I'm thinking of selling my Toshiba 50H81 - I bought it in late 2002 I beleive...
Here is a review: (so you can see stats etc...)
http://www.guidetohometheater.com/rearprojectiontvs/19/
I actually like the TV, but I'm probably going to move soon and honestly I don't want to move it or find space for it... but I have no idea what I should price it at... I recently replaced the blue bulb and the ?Focus Block? and had the convergance redone during its last month of extended warrenty - so it is in good shape and I don't forsee it needing service again anytime soon... I think its a great looking TV although its lacking new technology...
What do you guys think it would be worth if I sold it...
(I posted this here because its a question about what its worht and not actually a post about putting it up for sale, but if thats no good please feel free to move this post mods, thanks.)

I hate to say this, but I think around $500 would be lucky. The problem with any CRT projection TV; including a late model like yours is that it will almost do HD, but like the report you quoted says, it cannot handle a 720p signal.
I had a CRT projection that I ended up giving away to a buddy; because I knew I wouldn't get more than a few hundred dollars for it, and if I was going to get screwed over on the price; I may as well like the person doing it. (Plus at the time my buddy's TV had just died, so I became the "hero" in his house- it's a good feeling.)

My original thought was $500 as well. But youd have to find someone who really wanted that specific TV. It might have cost you a fortune back then, but its a 5 year old TV. $500 is a lot for a 5 year old TV.

It's not even an issue of how much your old TV is worth, it's more - what kind of TV can I get for $500 now? Didn't Dell have some 42" LCD's a week or so ago for $799?
I hate to say it, but it might be a "If you can move it, it's yours" kind of deal.

Yeah, like a lot of the guys above have said, unfortunately you just aren't going to get much for "pre-HD" technology.
I'd be happy to get $500 for it, and I would be trying to move it fast.

My guess would be in the neighbourhood of $300. I think people may be reluctant to buy such a huge piece of furniture. The 42" flat panels are attractive to people because they aren't as big as a china hutch.

it was $699, waiting for mine to come in
Have to agree with I-Hate, with the price of HDTV's coming down and down, it's gonna be harder and harder to get something outta it.

Ya I kind of thought thats the general reaction I'd get... but I wasn't sure, so I thought I'd ask... but I think you guys are right...
I like your suggestion Ken0042, I might as well give it to a friend that could use it, in exchange he can help me move or something - lol

The funny thing is, this TV will perform better than most of the pricepoint stuff you can buy today.
You will have trouble finding a better set today to watch sports in HD. Plasma and LCD technologies can't compete with the response time of what is essentially a CRT monitor. The problem is, is there such a thing as bad HD?
Price? Thats a tough one. I'd say keep it under 500.
To me, I could much more easily rationalize eating $450 bucks if it came to that. That set could become a big paper weight or could be an amazing deal for a few years.
We have the 57hx83 and love it. Wife watches 'So you think you can sing' and csi endlessly it seems.

Ya thats what makes it tough, I mostly watch sports and the HD games look fantastic... I just don't think I want to move it - 250lb TV - and its huge (thick) and I want to buy a smaller place, other than that I really like the TV.
