I watched Shrek 2 last night for the first time and enjoyed it a lot more than the original (and the original was pretty good), so in honor of that I thought I'd ask what sequels people thought were better than the original (this has probably been discussed before but what the heck).

My list would include

Empire Strikes Back
T2
Karate Kid 2 (its great!)
Lethal Weapon 2
Mad Max 2 (I think The Roadwarrior was the 2nd one?)
Shrek 2 (as mentioned)
Toy Story 2

I'm sure I'm missing others.

Spiderman 2
Godfather part 2
X-Men 2
Empire Strikes Back
and Grumpier Old Men was just as funny as the first.

Mad Max 2 - Roadwarrior was the 2nd one yup.

I'd say Terminator 2 as well. Some people would disagree, but the character development in the 2nd one was spectacular. I liked the 1st one alot too, but T2 is amovie that I can keep on watching and not get bored with it.

OH, AND WE CAN'T FORGET....THE EVIL DEAD SERIES.

Evil Dead 2 was better than Evil Dead, and Army of Darkness was better than Evil Dead 2!

X-Men 2 was also hella better than the 1st one.

Yeah the first 2 that came to mind were Terminator 2 and Austin Powers 2. Diehard 1 was good, Diehard 2 sucked, but Diehard 3 was awesome.

some of my fav sequals, in no particular order

Sequal (Original)

Godfather II (Godfather)
Empire Strikes Back (A New Hope)
Attack of the Clones (The Phantom Menace)
Silence of the Lambs (Manhunter)
Spiderman 2 (Spiderman)

I haven't seen Shrek 2 yet (this weekend me thinks)

hmmmmm LOTR were all good, hard to say one's better than the other; same as what I call the "Kevin Smith Series" Clerks - Mall Rats - Chasing Amy - Dogma - Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (might be missing one)

Ausin Powers same deal

I've watched all the Star Trek movies (I think, but it's been AGES)

Airplane 2. The Shatner stuff in it is hilarious, and the fact that they just use all the exact same jokes as the first one, and just grind them into the ground (a technique that Austin Powers used to great effect, too).

I have a theory that the second film in trilogies are almost always a let down. The first film is generally made as something that can stand alone, but which might be expanded upon. By the time they do the second film, they're already thinking about the third, so they don't need to make it as tight as the first film. Which isn't to say that a second film isn't as good or better than the others, it just has a completely different feel to it. Star Wars, Back to the Future, LoTR, the Matrix are all perfect examples of this, though there are many more.

I like Star Wars more than the Empire Strikes Back. Same goes for Shrek, thought the first one was much better than the 2nd.

Agree on T2, Spiderman 2, Wrath of Khan, Aliens and the Phantom Menace though.

As majestic, awe inspiring, beautiful and hilarious as Ghosbutsters 2 is, the first one is one of the best films ever.

I love both of them though.
