Love or hate him, you gotta admit he is a pretty brilliant self promoter. What this guy touches has turned to gold, and he has done what none of the Backstreet boys, 98 degrees, or other n'syncs have done.

lol, well said.
Some people pride themselves on listening to music no one else has ever heard before.
...Which generally means it sucks.

I saw JT in Toronto a few years ago during the big SARS relief concert. Poor guy had bottles thrown at him his whole performance, as he was the only non-rock act. He was pretty cool about it afterwards, saying he would have done the same thing if he was in the crowd waiting for AC/DC and The Rolling Stones.

I gained a lot of respect for him after that. and yeah, I probably would ahve been throwing stuff at him if I was waiting for AC/DC and the Stones.

I really don't get the mentality where once something becomes popular, it automatically sucks. I've heard countless times after an artist makes it big, people would say "(whoever) sucks now cuz he/she sold out!" It's like they can't be happy the artist is actually starting to rake in the cash or something.
Oh, btw, not saying what I said above applies to JT or anything, just a general comment.

It doesn't suck because it's popular, it sucks because it is cheesy crap.

It's like rap these days. It's terrible on the radio. Only the real tracks are underground currently, and some of those artists are starting to make a name for themselves, such as Lupe Fiasco. A fresh style that isn't all about hoes and rims and .
Mainstream music gets old after you hear it a million times on the radio in a day.

I would think any music would get old after hearing it a million times in a day.
Also, I don't see why so many can't help but bash pop and make it out to be nothing but a placebo for the needy commercialism of the masses. Not all music has to be intense, or deep, or soulful, or meaningful. Sometimes it's good to have shallow music that's good to dance to.
