unconfirmed reports - Castro is dead
From one of my other boards. Could be total BS, one of other board pals has contacts in the federal Govt, says Castro died today. A former Cuban I know has confirmed that there's a lot of action in Havana today. Again, totally third and fourth hand info, but it could be interesting to see what pans out.

For so many reasons, the Cuban Government would most likely take a few days to release that information. This however seems different, I mean if Perez Hilton is writing about it must be true. Unfortunately, this bit of news is something that won't ever be believed by anyone until we see some pictures.

If he is dead I wonder if the line of succession goes through the current person in charge.
If he's dead we'll see a pretty fast mobilization of the military onto the streets in Cuba as the military clamps down to keep power.

Brother Raul has basically been running things since last year, so I wouldn't expect too many wholesale changes right away. and again, that's assuming that Fidel has actually died.

I don't think anything will really change. His brother has been running the show anyways.

But wasn't the brother always looked at as more of a puppet with Fidel pulling the strings?
Interesting to see if Fidel is actually gone how long Gabbo actually stays in the captain's chair...

I expect that if Castro is dead, his brother is going to retire due to a sudden and mysterious illness.

I doubt it, he's been making most of the decisions over the past few years based on a number of reports and he has essentially been groomed to take over when his brother dies. Things could certainly go awry but it currently looks like a peaceful transition of power is the most likely scenario.

So is CP.... mild, but a buzz nonetheless.
I'm on the boat where I'll believe it when I see it. I remember a thread on CP before this one basically saying the same thing.

Say his brother dose take over. He is 76. He'll probably be dead in another 5 years too. This just seems like its delaying the inevitable power struggle.

The big x-factor if Castro is dead are the ex-pats living in Miami who have been planning for the day that Castro goes off to the big flamming pit in the turf.
His brother is seen as an extention of Castro, but dosen't have the personality or charisma that his brother has, so I have trouble with him holding together the various factions in that government.
If Castro dies there is going to be real legitimate fears by the hardliners as far as holding on power, thats why I expect that Raul to end up dead within the year and a true Military Junta to run Cuba.
