Thursday Globalfest postponed to Friday

It seems strange to postpone it so early when the weather can change on a dime. Forecasts often change in a few hours, especially when it isn't in the middle of a sustained front.

For example, I haven't seen more than 5 minutes of rain this week, even though all last Friday, Sat, Sunday they were saying how wet it was supposed to be.

My company does the web design and development for Globalfest. They called me this morning and gave us the news. We were waiting on wording for the release and then one of my developers updated the site. I thought I'd give CP an early heads up. It's plastered all over the site now with an official Media Release:

GlobalFest 2007 - Spain Fireworks Show RESCHEDULED to Friday, August 24th

(Calgary, AB - August 22, 2007) Tomorrow’s International Fireworks Competition presented by Trico Homes has been RESCHEDULED to the evening of Friday, August 24th.
GlobalFest organizers have RESCHEDULED tomorrow night’s show for the safety of all patrons and those involved with the competition. After reviewing the weather system maps and forecasts for tomorrow, it has been determined that the Spain presentation at GlobalFest can not be safely displayed in the predicted weather conditions.

Please retain your ticket for tomorrow to ensure your entrance to Elliston Park on Friday night.

True, it is Calgary weather, and nothing is certain, however with a 70% chance of thunder storms it's prudent to make the early decision so you can ensure everyone is aware.

My lawn is parched but I haven't watered because rain has been promised all week.

This rain will happen on Saturday; that is when my season ending ball tournament is scheduled.

It's pretty much a no win situation for them and there will be complaints eiither way. I'm biased given my connection with the event but I believe they picked the lesser of the two options as this will cause less headaches for those who would had to have shown up two nights in a row (well, three actually if you attend the Finale).

The postponed show works perfect for me. I am really too busy to go tomorrow, but was going to anyway. Now, I can get everything done and go on Friday. The only downside is that it will be busier on Friday night than it would have been Thursday.
