Default DEAN,the destructor

This badboy is on the brink of a cat-5 as i type this without a possiblity of it dying out. winds are now 145+ and rising by the hour.

First up say your prayers for Jamaica who hasn't been hit by a major hurrican in some 300 years (almost hard to beleive) i have been to Jamaica and i don't see how those buildings can survive 120mph let alone the 160 what is projected,i would be building a foxhole on high ground right now if i lived there. After Jamaica its projected to hit my winter-wonderland of Playa del Carmen/Cancun on Monday.

After that it heads into the warm gulf to grow again and possibly release its fury on Texas/Louisiana

Looks like there's something nasty starting to build over Georgia and Alabama as well and it's headed into the Gulf to pick up some water... Will Dean catch up to it?

Oh man, I hope it changes course. Playa del Carmen is one of my fave spots too. I've gotten to know some of the locals somewhat ... I hope they make out okay if it hits there.

Thats a high pressure system building that might keep Dean from making the normal NW turn up toward Alabma/Florida threw the gulf. Personly i think it will be gone by monday as another high is building on the west of of Mexico that'll push it to the east.

It's quite possible Dean could visit his sister Katrina's end path.

If it does make landfall in the US...it will be the first one in almost 2 years.

Hard to believe after the summer of 05 when Katrina and Wilma left devestation across the far South.

After going through the remnants of a couple of these things a few years ago, I wish this such an experience on no one.

Dominican Republic and Jamaica are in real trouble as it stands, and then onto the Yucatan, but these things have a mind of their own and can change course at any time. Lets all really hope that New Orleans gets spared the wrath as that city is still having problems just getting re-started in many areas. They are still demolishing buildings that were battered 2 years ago in September.

Yikes...these things are just nasty.

Last year there were actually 10 named storms 5 of which were major hurricans, the US got spared because of el-nino winds blew them out into the mid-atlantic.

el-nino won't back for about 4 years so guess what....

Have a friend who is a carpenter in Cayman Islands. He just flew out of St. Lucia on the last day of his honeymoon, the same day it hit there. He said there was so much flooding, that if the same thing happens to Cayman, it will destroy the country.

He's basically boarding up the multi-million dollar house he's working on, moving over to his wife's aunts house, boarding that up, then they've bought two tickets to Miami (at $800/ea -- one way) and flying out tomorrow.

Said chances are that if it stays on course, and that the weather conditions are perfect for a terrible storm, his time in the Cayman Islands is finished, as there won't be much left to return to.

Pretty scary stuff. Lots of people there that can't just fly out. Jamaica is going to get roughed up pretty good too.
