Looking for a kilt!
Hey guys,
I'm in the market for a kilt and I was hoping somone here might know where to look for one.
I don't need anything too fancy, as I'm not actually Scottish and I really only need it for one party (specifically a round of pub golf for a bachelor party).
So if anyone knows where I can get lined up with a low quality cheap kilt let me know. I was hoping to keep it under $100, so clearly I'm not looking for an authentic 8 yd number.
I already know about the Highland Shop and I'm gonna swing by there on Friday to see if they have anything cheap so any suggestions other than that would be great.
Thanks

I would highly recommend you go to a costume shop. I was looking to buy one for St. Patrick's Day last year(Yes, I know that's Irish and kilts are generally regarded as Scottish). I found that the whole getup(kilt, sporran, belt, socks/hose) would be several hundred dollars for a good one. A kilt also fits different then pants, so the sizing can be a bit difficult to nail down. Instead of those hundreds of dollars, I spent 60 on renting one.

There is a Scottish shop, somewhere on 4th Street SW, close to where Garlic Clove, Aida's is etc, you could try there, sorry, dont know the whole name, just remember walking past it.

A little OT but I saw a Nike or some sort of sportswear kilt the other day. I had to do a double take but sure enough it was. Don't know why but I found that a little weird.
Anyways, yeah the Scottish shoppe a couple blocks north of the Rose and Crown on 17th if I'm not mistaken. I've never been in there but I've heard it is a little pricey because its the real deal. The costume shop is a great idea.

Haha, where'd you see that? It was probably me. I wear kilts year round. I've got sports kilts and camo kilts and denim kilts and of course, tartan kilts. =P
The Scottish Shoppe is crap. The guy who runs it is a snob and I dont care for the place. The Highland Scottish Gift Shop up by C.O.P. is the way to go. The Hawes, who run the place, are awesome people. Bill piped at my wedding in May. They'll hook you up with anything you need.
Hell, if you're around the same height and girth as me I'll lend you my Nova Scotia tartan...

if it's for a bachelor party, why not go to a facbric store an see if they have any tatran material. Then all you have to to is put it around your waste like a kilt.
It doesn't sound like you want/need a real kilt as you're not looking for a specific clan tartan.
I too am very much in the market for a kilt (I want to be married in one) however I'd only wear my clan's tartan if I did.

Thanks for the tips guys.
If I can't find one cheap, I'm gonna try to make my own, but I'll try a few places first.
Thanks

I thought I remember seeing "gag" ones at the Scottish Shop. They came in a bag with a Scottish Hat with red hair and red side burns sticking out of it. You should just give them a call... I wonder if San Francisco would have some?

If you do end up making your own, find someone with a Fabricland membership card. Huge savings on the fabric.
