The PGA Championship...lots of story lines.
First off...the heat. Its going to be well over 100 F all 4 days. Yesterday 22 spectators and 2 golfers had to be treated for heat related illnesses.
Southern Hills is an awesome golf course to top things off....very very tough if you dont hit it straight. Even when you get it on in regulation, the greens are deceiving and fast. This makes for high scoring as evidenced by yesterdays results and what has been seen so far today. Angel Cabrera, current US Open champ, took a 10 on a par 3 yesterday.
For Calgary folks, Stephen Ames has just now tied for the lead after birdies on 1 and 5 and a bogey on 3, putting him at -3 for the tourney. That could be good enough to win by Sunday afternoon. He has the game...can he keep it all together for 3 days though?
Tiger Woods....even though he finished yesterday at +1, he is still right in the thick of things IF he can get his control under wraps. Too many "right distance wrong spot" shots so far.
Could be a terrific weekend when all is said and done.

Yeah, I watched a bit yesterday. I love the setup of the course as it's not stupid long on every hole but the guys have to make shots. Judging by yesterday the guys were having a tough time with what will be holes 1-9 on the weekend but were making hay on the back 9 especially holes 10 to 15. I wonder if John Daly will be able to keep his head about him and not give away a bunch of strokes today.

Great great golf course, one that demands an accurate driver, and great approaches. Really suits Ames' game, hopefully the putter cooperates. Would love to see Daly somehow stay in contention, though I have a feeling he'll shoot in the 80's today with his late tee time.

Ames finishes at -3....good for 2nd spot thus far. Scott Verplank at -4.
Woods starts with a bird, Daly with consecutive bogies....I love the guy and his attitude about life for himself, but he really is a bit of a buffoon when it comes to managing his game at times. Crowd loves it though so its all good from an entertainment standpoint.

I am looking forward to Sunday, its suppose to be so nice outside on the Island but I don't care I am going to wake up, and lay on my couch all freakin day and watch this thing play out. With the heat and pressure of this tourny it could be good for some chokes!

Watched him crank his 3 wood out of the fairway and just about maim a guy in his backyard down in Dallas. The wrought iron fence saved him, the ball took a nice riccochet and Daly got some nice applause. I like his "Tin Cup" devil may care attitude, but just think of how good he could be if he put his mind to it.

Yeah, Tiger is having a pretty solid day. Great putt on 12 to save par going to the par 5 just one back.

Well Tiger has made three straight birdies and is now -6 and has a two shot lead after Oglivie bogied 17. Tiger has a shot at shooting 62 today which would be a major championship record. Ogilvie did play well, but yeah, I don't think he can keep pace with Tiger on the weekend here, at least not if Tigers going to strike the ball and putt like he is today.

gotta drain a couple great putts, like tiger has already today (chip in too), to have a shot at 62. this could definitely happen.

Damn, one of the greatest rounds in golf history by Woods today in the heat and toughest conditions of the day. He is scary good when he is on.

Tigger is sick! There is no way he is human, I am guessing robot from another planet. He is just too good!
If I could be any sports figure it would be him just for his golf skill, the money and wife would be a bonus

i think that the golf gods don't want anybody carding a 62 in a major, otherwise that woulda dropped.
