CD Review: Stephen Marley - Mind Control
Not someone who ussually takes the time to write about a CD, but after playing this damn disc for the last 3 days straight I am feeling the need to share.
First of all....I am not a Reggae music fan per say. Yes I like Bob Marley and a few of his cohorts from the late 70's, but other then that have never been much of a fan of Reggae music. A week or so a friend droped this CD off at my place with some others so I could bur.......urrrr.....listen to them, yes that is what I was doing. Anyways I put this CD in to just give it a shot before I tossed it.....but it turned out to be damn impressive.
Everything about this album makes me say "thank you" everytime I put it in the CD player. The production is very slick and every beat is unique, finding ways in alot of the tracks to turn a seemingly basic and mundane beat into something creative and very appealing. Now to the lyrics.....very impressive to say the least. Some songs are fun, some introspective, others look at the human situation and alot of tracks incorporate all three of these asspects making for a very good listen. In some songs I hear the blues, in others amazing guitar, then a hiphop track with Mos Def....and of course the traditional Rastafari beat following the musical path his own father trailblazed some 30 years ago.
Bottom line....you may or may not be a Reegae fan but regardless of that fact this CD is worth a listen.
