Default Presidents Cup: Weir or Ames?

If you were Gary Player who would have you choosen?

I am a little shocked with his decision considering not only Ames has been playing better than Weir but there were others around the world that you could say are playing even better than both. However I will stick with the Canadian picks....

I wonder if the organizer of the tournament asked Player to rethink picking Weir as he would be a huge draw for the Canadian event.

Mike Weir:
- Money List Rank 85th
- Made 14 of 18 Cuts
- 8th - Best Finish
- 3 Top 10 Finishes
- Last 10 Starts - MC, WD, T34, T8, T8, T20, T39, MC, T37, T24

Stephen Ames:
- Money List Rank 54th
- Made 12 of 18 Cuts
- 5th - Best Finish
- 3 Top 10 Finishes
- Last 10 Starts - T12, T22, T27, MC, T10, T30, T52, MC, T61, T21

Maybe if one of the Mods could put a poll. Thanks.

Default Poor Ames never had a chance

Interesting piece on the Weir/Ames debate.......

http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...e-1524d86ba1fa

If it came down to a head-to-head between Weir and Ames, there was still no way it could have been anyone but Ames. Based on their performances in 2007, Ames leads Weir in the rankings, money earned, top 10s and cuts made on the PGA Tour.

As was pointed out in this space yesterday, it's unfortunate for Ames that he didn't play like Woody Austin on Sunday. There's no shame in shooting six-over 76 when paired with Tiger Woods in the final round of a major, but it certainly made Player's decision to pick Weir easier. And rumours were swirling all around Tulsa before Sunday that Weir was going to be picked -- no matter how Ames finished.

Ames for sure. the only rationale that i can figure is that they liked weir's president's cup experience, but i mean, come on. thee is no way he should have been chosen over ames.

Well with the tournament in Canada I think Player did the political thing and chose a Canadian guy. Certainly he had better options from Australia, but in order to make the tourney higher profile he opted to have a local flavor. I don't think I'd discount that previous experience that Weir has in this event having played in the tourney a couple of times. I think it's sort of a pickem event between the two and given how Tiger Woods can get inside Steven Ames head....I think I would have picked Weir as well. I like Ames when golf is an individual event and he speaks his mind, but in a team event like this....you probably want blander guys who keep quiet.
