Both the Wii and the Xbox360 outsell the PS3 by almost 3 to 1.
http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/21...-ahead-console
Nintendo's Wii came out ahead with nine million sales, a fraction over the Xbox 360's 8.9 million, and both significantly trouncing Sony's 3.7 million PlayStation 3 sales.

Xbox easily. cheaper, better game library, best game controller ever made, Xbox live, and a much higher installed base so it's easy to find online games. i've been a Sony games fan since the original Playstation, but they really blundered with the PS3

I'm a fan of the PS3 and I have a feeling it will eventually pass the 360 once a few of the bigger games come out. The one thing I like about the PS3 is that I haven't been worried at all about the thing breaking. I'm really OCD at times and I'd be stressing non-stop if I had a 360.

360 all the way. as others have mentioned above, it has a huge game base right now.
one thing that folk never mention is how the xbox functions as a home media centre extender. you can stream movies or music from your home pc to your home tv. i use orb.com but there are other products out there.
oh yah and co-op games on xbox live.

Good point. My buddy has an Xbox 360, and we have a pool going for how long until it gets the red light of death.
All SEVEN of us have gotten it, so its bound to happen. Pretty brutal for a console. However, I still love the XBOX

My vote is for the PS3 for two reasons; it is a great blu-ray player (biggest use for mine) and the hardware is quite amazing and reliable.
A better game library is coming. . . there are a few good games in the meantime to fill the void.
I have the Wii and never use it... I cant stand the SD. If you dont have an HDTV, consider the Wii.

Sadly, judging by the selection of Bluray vs HDDVD in stores, Bluray is wining and Sony, after all these decades of sheer stubborness, may finally have won themselves a proprietary format and all the associated royalties.
I watched T2 Bluray on a PS3 today @ 1080p on a 42" monitor...I really didn't see how it was that great, maybe I need to see a newer movie.

not so fast. paramount and dreamworks going HD-DVD exclusive is a huge gain for that format, and there's talks that Warner Bros. may also be next in line. new versions of the discs are also becoming on par with blu-ray for storage capacity, so the one pro that blu-ray had over hd-dvd is gone. my money is still on sony to lose the format wars, yet again

If your looking at gaming with friends go with the 360, since it has more games out for it (but I really like Warhawk for PS3). Just remember that chances are good that it will brick on you.

I personally think it's a horrible controller. It never feels confortable whie gaming. Live is ok, but I don't think it's good enough to have to pay for multiplayer.

I think HD-DVD is using a dual layer, while most Blu-ray only use a single at this point. The spec says that the extra layer on a Blu-ray disk will give it 20GB more than HD-DVD.

I'm undecided on this one as well. I don't play games often but I am addicted to guitar hero and I must have rock band when it comes out. While it is supposed to come out for PS2, I'd bet many of the features wouldn't be there, most importantly being the downloading of albums.
While the PS3 is more expensive than the 360, its online stuff is free (right?) and it would be kinda cool to have a blu ray player. The only other game that I am waiting for is God Of War 3.
It will be hard to justify the amount of money I'd be spending for the few games I'll be playing but oh well. How much does XBOX live cost? Can you rent systems at video stores still?

You get what you pay for! My friend who tries to go online always gets booted for a bad connection or it will be really glitchy (and then used the same connection for xboxlive without any problems). No one can compete with the 360 when it comes to online play.
As for Blu-Ray it is winning for now. A bunch of production companies are going exclusive HD-DVD and then Sony once again will lose the new technology war because they are too greedy.
I have had my problems with the 360 but I am still happy with it and would not recommend any other system to friends and family. You take the chance when buying electronics now adays.
Not one of my friends is unhappy with his 360 however the buddies that bought the PS3/Wii are not talking about getting the 360 also because of the online play and the game available.
Plus not to mention Halo 3...that makes it the winner right there.
Best of luck choosing your system, my suggestion would be just buy all 3

So far I got 2, the Wii and 360. I am seriously comtemplating the PS3 now, because I wouldn't mind having the Blu Ray player.

I'm a Wii60 guy........ until the PS3 price cuts in half and some good games come out for it. I would avoid PS3 like the plague right now.

360 for sure. if your mainly using the console to play games then 360 is much better as it has more games and even the games on both (madden, fifa) run at twice the frame rate on the 360. IMO the only reason to get a ps3 is for final fantasy or metal gear solid and these aren't out yet, so might as well wait for a price drop and for them to come out. I'm also not convinced that mgs or ff will stay ps3 exclusives since the ps3 numbers are so much lower then xbox.

I go wherever SquareEnix and the Final Fantasy franchise goes, so I guess this gen I would go with the PS3 too. However, last gen, I bought all three, although since I'm a huge fan of Japanese rpgs, my PS2 had by far the most use out of the three. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting all three this gen too, since I already have a Wii, will probably get the PS3 once FF13 is out, and I'm sure I'll get the Xbox later on when it goes down to around $200 in a couple of years.

Methinks your friends connection might be wonky. I've actually never been booted in a single game of anything. I've been blown away by sony's online. Not as good as live of course, but for free I can't complain.
I have been of the same opinion since the days of genesis. Nobody hates the system they have, everybody is generally happy with whatever system they own. All systems deliver a great amount of entertainment.

If you want to play with your friends in the same room get a ps3. It supports up to 7 controllers which is great for sports games. In nhl08 you can have 6 friends over and fill out all the positions and even take your team online for matches. However, the userbase is small right now(although I haven't had a problem finding opponents online so far) so if playing in the same room doesn't matter, go 360. You can find people to play even if the game in particular isn't that popular.
Also of note the ps3 comes with a wireless network adapter built in while the 360 comes with a mic which is usually helpful during online play.
