Default Car meets animal...

I just barely missed hitting a deer dead on within city limits. Never thought it would happen and I have to admit, it's a pretty intense moment when that deer jumps out of no where. Luckily I slowed down just enough so that I only caught the deer's hind legs. A piece of something which I presume to be the lower end of hind legs did fly off and hit my windshield. It was a little too intense for 1 am while I was just trying to get home to goto bed. Now I'm all too worked up to sleep. I know some of you snoop around late at night so share your stories!

I looked to see if I can still spot the deer after I pulled over. It was pitch dark and without any source of light, I couldn't see a thing. Other than that I didn't even know what else to do. I was still kinda in shocked it happened.

you can(and should) call animal services. preferably right after it happened so they know where to look.
If you took off a piece of it's hind legs it's going to need some serious medical care...probably to be put down so at least it won't suffer too much...

I think you can find the number in the blue pages... or call the SPCA or Humane society and they can re-direct you.

Someone will actually go out and look for the deer.
same goes for stray dogs if you find one but can't/won't catch it.

I've hit a deer.

just after a light rain, it came out of the left ditch, barely made it past the oncoming car, just far enough for me to hit it in my front left corner. The body panels on the left side were all shifted and I couldn't open the drivers side door. There was fur between the rim and tire. Someone who happened to be looking out their window called the police, and when he got there he gave me crap saying he shouldn't have been called unless the damage was greater than $500 (this was in '94), and in the end the repair bill was $3700. It sure does shake you up.

My mom hit a deer driving to Cochrane (at night) about ten years ago. Front bumper and grill were messed up big time. She was pretty shook up for quite a number of hours.

A deer hit my car one time (I did not hit it). I was driving down a gravel road up north by Edmonton a few years back. There were lots of trees on both sides of the road. I wasn't going to fast, probably about 65km/h when out of no where this deer jumps out of the trees and hits the side of my car. I was driving a little car at the time and it actually pushed my car over about 2 feet. I stopped to see if the deer was ok. It got up and kept on leaping into the bushes.

I once hit a moose on the highway between Dawson Creek and Fort St John, in a Chrysler Cirrus. Half-second earlier and I wouldn't be posting here, but luckily the moose just caved in the passenger side of my car. Luckily no one was with me either.

The best part was I was able to walk away.

My Sister lives in Fort Mac. and says moose-hitting physics means that often the moose flips and ends up going through the windshield feet first. The resulting death throes create an unfortunate blender effect on the occupants. I have decided that I do not wish to hit a moose while driving. I guess while walking is okay.
