Default Security concerns about the iPhone...

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/07...vulnerability/

Quote:
Security researchers have discovered a security flaw in Apple's iPhone that could allow miscreants to wreak havoc on users of the highly-revered device, which has been dubbed the Jesus Phone by its more blindly faithful users.

A proof-of-concept website that exploits the vulnerability secretly siphons SMS text messages, contact information, call history and voice mail. And one of the researchers who wrote it says it would be trivial to effect other misdeeds, including turning the iPhone into a bugging device by surreptitiously switching on the audio recorder and uploading audio files. Stealing a user's passwords, email messages and browsing history is also possible.
And that's not all they found. Kinda scary that your PDA could be used like that.

These things need to have the same firewalls and security features that PCs require. That's essentially what they are, is palm sized wireless computers.

It's funny you know. I'm on a Mac and have never needed a virus check program the way I had on my PC. Apple brags about how they don't have to worry about hackers and viruses, supposedly because they have a better security system. Malarky (whatever malarky is, man). I don't need a virus checking program because the 14 year old geek wanting to wreck havoc is going to write his virus for the most common OS - Windows.

Now the shoe is on the other foot. Apple is in the position of having the gadget most people want to hack into. Those 14 year old geeks who were once a thorn in Bill Gates side are now a thorn in Steve Jobs side.

I guess Rogers being dickwads and not bringing in the iPhone anytime soon could be a blessing. Maybe by the time Rogers lowers their data rates (which should be sometimes around 2057) maybe Apple can get the bugs worked out of the iPhone.

This should be one of those things that will be fixed before the Canadian release. The Americans will be the guinea pigs for us.
