I think the credit goes out more to the German officials...
Quote:
The 22-year-old, who is said to be a U.S. permanent resident from Albania, tried to fly from Calgary to Frankfurt, Germany, with what was believed to be a forged passport on July 23. When German authorities noticed something fishy about her travel documents they sent her back to Calgary where Mounties fingerprinted her and revealed her real identity, said Canada Border Services Agency spokeswoman Lisa White.

The German officials didn't know who she was and were not satisfied with her document. they simply refused her into Germany. It was CBSA with the help of the RCMP fingerprint database that identified her and confirmed that she was using a fraudulent passport.

I guess the point is that she did get into Canada with those same documents. It wasn't until the Germans raised the red flag that Canadian authorities got involved.

How is this a good example of why border service officers need firearms?
There is nothing in either article to suggest that she put up some kind of fight, or had a weapon of her own…in fact it says she gave up her identity in questioning…firearms seem pretty arbitrary in this particular situation

With all due respect to the RCMP... they didn't really capture her in Canada before hand anyways. Without the German officials being cautious, she would have slipped through Canada undetected. The RCMP had this given to them on a silver platter, just following procedure when a person is rejected & returned. Probably escorted her off the plane even.
Way to go Germans!

She was one of Americas Most Wanted. She is under investigation for murder among other things. She could have done anything if she went off the deep end. These people have to deal with crazy people like this on a daily basis. Who knows what she would have done.
She didn't give up her identity when questioned.....that is why they had to find out who she was using fingerprints.

Yes, she did get into Canada, but not with those documents. She either had different documents that would allow her to enter Canada without a VISA or she snuck across the land border somewhere.

Exactly, props to the Germans for being thorough and cautious... and well, nice job RCMP for not dropping the ball when it was neatly passed to them.

Where exactly did you read that, or are you making a guess? I see nothing in either of your links that indicates she used something other than her forged passport to enter Canada from the US.
And why would a person carry two forged passports? If you are on the run the last thing you want to do is raise suspicion, and having two passports would make me suspicious.

Where does it say that she is under investigation for murder? I see trafficking drugs and people…and some assault but nothing about murder in either of your links
And a quote from her profile on Americas most Wanted

During that questioning, DEA agents say that Hatija confessed her real identity. From there, it was as simple as running her name through some databases.

Did you even read the articles that you posted?

The RCMP didn't do anything in this case other than run her prints through there data system. Other than that they were not involved. Yes, the Germans did do a good job in not admitting her into their country as they were suspect about the documents that she had and they need to be recognized for that, which I think they are. Having said that, they did not know who she was nor what her status was anywhere. It was the CBSA that figured this out. It was a classic example how two countries worked together.

It does say on the AMW site that she is wanted for questioning in a homicide.
The DEA is not in Canada, therefor they could not investigate her. Her Identity was determined through finger print analysis as I have said on a few occations.
Just because these areticles say a certain agency was involved does mean it was. The RCMP usually gets credit for any achievements that other federal government agencies do because they are the go to agency for the media. And the RCMP also have small units that help liason between other government departments, so when something is found, the RCMP are usually the spokes person and then the media reports it as the RCMP that did the finding.

Yah in a Dirty Euro porn star from Bulgaria kind of way.
Strange, when I went through passport control in FRA, all the guy did was look at my picture and then stamp my passport, took about 15 seconds. Very quick and painless and if there wasnt some dude with an oozie standing behind him with a German Shephard that I mistook for a small horse, I would have thought the security in Germany was complete garbage.
