Her hair was hardly hidden by her white-and-orange headscarf — an infraction that could bring police attention.

Iranian women get more education then men, so that could be next.
The resistance to the government coming from educated women in Iran is quite interesting and will likely push a lot of change in the coming decades.

The government is trying to hold their grip, but I think it will eventually slip.

Now they are arresting people for various things, but no they dont hate the west at all.

Ahmad Reza Radan, the head of Tehran's police, emphasised that the plan was not just restricted to enforcing Islamic dress rules but also targeted all those who disrupt "security" in society.

"In this plan, sexual harassment in the street, addicts and hooligans and the security of recreational places will be targeted," he told the ISNA news agency.


He added that the police would also step up the fight against what he described as "sexually deviant groups and Satan-worshipping cults."
"Some young people, intentionally or unwittingly, are walking advertisements for Western deviant sexual and Satan-worshipping cults. In this plan such people will be identified and confronted."

Just an amusing follow-up in the LA Times today:

Iran's nationwide crackdown on fashions deemed un-Islamic has resumed in full force this week, at least throughout the capital, having slowed in the late spring. Vice police have established checkpoints and are stopping women in cars or walking along the streets with too much hair spilling out of their mandatory head coverings, or wearing open-toed sandals without socks or overcoats deemed too revealing. Men wearing tight T-shirts or boasting racy haircuts have also been targeted in a campaign to stamp out perceived Western cultural influences.

"The police will act against those whose trousers are too short, who have skintight coats, shirts with Western logos, and Western hairstyles," Ahmad Reza Radan, the head of Tehran's police force, said on Iranian television this week, according to the Associated Press. "We will ask those arrested where they bought their clothes and where they had their hair cut so those outlets can be closed down."
