If you've already decide you like the blow, all you need to find is a hooker and you're good.

Seriously though, get new friends if you have to, get some hobbies or activities and stay out of the bars...save your money and travel... what a colossal waste of my younger years, if I could take back the incredible amount of time and money I have spent in pubs over the past 14 years and give back the calories things would be freaking sweet...

Vodka Slimes were my 18 year old drink of choice. How I miss $4 doubles at the Capital before 11pm.

So, you don't like beer? Well, there are all sorts of different beer. I could understand someone hating Canadian or Kokanee. But try something like a Guinness. It's like having dessert, with fewer calories than a glass of orange juice.
And if you like Coke, put some rum in it. Or some prefer rye. What else is acceptable for a man to drink? Gin and tonic?

Oh, to be that young again!
As a painter stands before the blank canvas, so stand those of us with longer relationships with adult beverages before you now.
If you like Coke, then I say start with what you like. Add some rum to that Coke. Or Jack.
People have mixed reactions to/relationships with gin. Some people get crazy and wake up face down in a gutter with no pants on, and some can drink it all night long without issue.*
If you're looking to dip a toe in the *cough* water before you plunge in, beer can be a safer route than hard stuff because one only needs a modicum of tolerance to alcohol before beer's propensity to make you feel like you just took down a huge prime rib kicks in before the amount of alcohol has you chatting up unattractive members of the opposite sex like they're freakin' supermodels.
Either way, I say find something you can handle over the course of your binge, I mean evening, and stick with it. Then try out different things in various stages of moderation to "add to your palette" so to speak.
Have fun, and bring a DD!

Going out to the bar is fun, but like the dude above said, save your cash and travel, or save for a downpayment on a house. I think back and try to calculate how much I spent over the years going out 2-3 nights a week and it makes me want to cry.

Order a boilermaker or an Irish Car Bomb, they're both pretty easy on the taste buds.

I think everyone I know started out by drinking Vodka Slimes, including myself, but I'm fairly certian I haven't had one in about 5 or 6 years.

I just started keeping tabs really, and it does add up (usually to pubs for me). But half of the bill is food, so, just don't eat food, and you can drink twice as much!

Just drink good quality stuff. It won't taste good at the start but it will grow on you. And you will be able to digest it better than the cheaper stuff.
Word of warning: If you have never taken shots before, the first time they will go down very easy. Take it slow.

Same for me. It was pretty funny, the last time I was out at a bar this guy goes up and ordered a vodka slime and everyone goes "oh.. 18 year old".

Yeah, alcohol is definitely a waste of money. A good alternative is to pre-drink with friends at some one's place, split the costs and go to the club nice and buzzed so you don't have to buy too many $8 drinks once inside.
As for what to drink... it just takes getting used to. A newbie might find Jack Daniels a little too much... same with vodka. Rye's a good alternative though, so a Rye and Ginger might work.

I still don't like the taste of most alcoholic beverages, but I've discovered Ceasars and think they are the best thing since sliced bread

Despite that amount of time/money blown in the bar in my youth, wouldn't trade it for anything. The memories (foggy or otherwise) will be with me for life. Friends/booze/girls/crazy 90's dance music.....ahhhhhhh, good times indeed.
