Default What to do in Cranbrook?

I was wondering if there was anyone on here from Cranbrook. We're leaving on Friday to go camping at Kikomun Creek and we're spending our last day and night in Cranbrook. So I was hoping someone might have some advice on things to do and see there as I haven't been there since I was little.

Thanks!

try to avoid the potholes and don't get stabbed

i have family who lived there for many years, and the best way i could describe the town was the closest thing to a Canadian Flint, MI

Maybe we should have booked a room in Fernie instead!

Without the crime..

I lived there from 85-99, and really, there isn't much to do in the town itself during the summer, but there is lots of cheap golf nearby and hiking as well.

EDIT: Hemi-Cuda is bang-on re: the potholes though, it's ridiculous.

I lived there from 81 to 89. I hope the town has changed since I last lived there. We were never into stabbing people when I was there, but we used to go out and shoot guns, cut down trees and light fires every day after school.....and that was elementary school. If you like golf, thats a good option in that area. There is some decent hikes around there as well. Other than that I don't know...Fort Steele maybe if you like history. If they still have the Alpine Slides going in Kimberly those used to be a hoot.

Just came from there. I only live an hour & 15 minutes away. I took my kids to Fort Steel today. If I was from Alberta and had a couple days to kill there I would probably grab an area map book that shows all the camping/hiking/fising spots in the area. There's lots you can get to with a 2wheel drive. You might take a day trip over the Gray Creek pass to Kootenay Lake. It's a bumpy road but awsome scenery. Hang a left when you hit the Lake and you'll find a great beach(Crawford Bay) in about 7 minutes.

Actually if you don't want to go that far Moyie Lake is just 20 minutes from Cranbrook and has a great beach and warmer water. It's along the highway.

There are two things to do in Cranbrook, I've found.

If you are heading west, keep going to Vancouver. If you are heading east, keep going to Calgary.

They have a damn fine hockey rink though.

Hunt down Scott Niedermayer and beg him to retire so he doesn't have to tarnish his career by playing with a ###### bag like Bertuzzi!

well i'm not sure if it's changed in recent years, but i know when my aunt and uncle lived there in the 90's Cranbrook had one of the highest crime rates per capita in the country. i'm not sure how much was violent vs. property, but it didn't get the nickname Crimebrook for nothing

There were a few murders during that time, I was only 10 y.o. so I'm not so well-versed on the details, but any crime I committed there was strictly property based

And Snakeeye, the rink is a beaut, especially if you ever watched the Ice (or the Cranbrook Colts or Royals) play in the Memorial Arena..

Not bad advice. I was going to say the best thing to do in Cranbrook is to keep driving.

You could raise children who end up having NHL careers and end up winning the Stanley Cup together on the same team... Try packing that into a weekend.

If you're like my ex-girlfriend, you can move to Cranbrook, have a one-night stand almost right upon arrival, get yourself knocked up, and then move back home to live with your mom...

... or you can check out some of the hiking and mountain biking trails. I hear they're nice.
