Default Recommend some campgrounds!

At the end of July myself and about 5 buddies are going to head out camping. We do this every year and I was hoping some of you could give us some good recommendations. We are all twenty years old so we would like to find some place where there are going to be less families and more of a party type atmosphere (if such a thing exists in the camping world). We are willing to drive (5 hours at the most) and would like something close to a lake, with nice campsites.

Any suggestions?

better off to rent a cabin somewhere if you guys want to party. there is little tolerance for partying in most campgrounds nowadays.

Spray Lakes outside of Canmore is pretty awesome. Nice secluded campground if you get one of the sites farther back in the loop. No services at all though, except outhouses.

Went camping there on May long a few years back and there were tonnes of rowdies just coming from working the ski hills for the winter.

Too bad that Camp Woods got all anal and only allows scouts there now. Right on Sylvan, 5 minutes from town...

I can't recommend and acutal 'pay' campsites. I'm a bushwhacker. Create your own campspot! It's free! Just make sure you clean up your mess afterward lest ye shall have me teaching ya a lesson...

I'll second this one. I spent the past weekend there, and it was great. The camping sites are not slammed together like some other campgrounds.

Going camping this week, is Spray really tree-ey? Or kinda open?

Want to go somewhere quite secluded and full of damn trees.

There are two "parts" to the campground. As you first drive into the campground, there are open sites that truly are lakeside. Drive in farther and you get nicely treed sites that are still quite close to the water.

About 20 minutes south of Longview, just before you reach Chain Lakes, there is a turn into the eastern slopes of Kananaskis.

There is really only one designated campground - Indian Oils - but before that and past that you can pull off anywhere, hoist your flag and party your brains out, hopefully without anyone around you. No facilities at all.

Lots of off-road vehicle campers back there. A creek runs through there.

If you pick the right spot, you'd probably bother no one.

Pick up your trash.

Reminds me of the line from Unforgiven . . . . "You stay away from folks you know . . . there'll be a lot of people out out to hang you."
