Default Advice needed: Selling sports cards

Looking for a little advice about selling a number of sports cards.

I have about ~5k worth of cards of a wide range of marketability. The options as I understand them would be to take them to a card store, that would likely cherry pick the cards they think they could sell quickly, buy at a big discount, or I could put them on Ebay ... which would be very time consuming.

Has anyone sold a large lot of cards before or know of someone who has? If so what is the best way to do it?

The problem with E-bay is that they expect that the cards have been graded. Rarely will people bid on ungraded cards... you certainly won't get the cards worth. And I really don't feel like sending my Wayne Gretzky rookie cards through the mail down to Texas to have them graded. I might as well just put $1,000 in cash in an envelope and send it somewhere.

The problem with selling at card stores is that they deal as if they are sole purchasers. They will try to scam you. I took my Gretzky into a guy once and asked if he wanted to purchase it and he told me "The card game has changed kid... the big money is in the new hologram cards. Nobody wants these plain old things any more but I'll take this off your hands for $40." These guys are in the market of buying low and selling high so they will rip you off at any chance they get.

There aren't a whole lot of wonderful options out there which is why my Gretzkys are sitting on a shelf in my entertainment room.
