Anyone else watching this? Some pretty good acts, but not as good a lineup as live eight.

Internet, not TV is the best way to view.

Metallica was really good in London.

Spinal Tap did "Big Bottom" with "every bass player in the world".

My big complaint with this event is that it has no specific goals.

What can I do to help the planet? All they've told me to do is use re-usable filters and turn off lights.

I guess it all helps.

not to mention the massive carbon footprint it still leaves behind regardless of what they say.

Quote:
It has been estimated that between the actual concerts, web streaming and television broadcasting, the Live Earth concert series could produce as much as 200,000 metric tons of carbon, after the conversions from electricity have been calculated. In other words, the Gore concerts could produce more carbon dioxide than was produced by all of Afghanistan in 2006.

How about those Beastie Boys!? ha.

Melbridge you're missing the point on this entire event. Yes, it causes more electricity to be used than the average July 7th, but in the long run events and campaigns like these will prove much more energy saving. To be honest, it's ridiculous for critics to suggest they shouldn't put together awareness campaigns because they pullute more than a place such as Afghanistan.

I'm not missing the point - what's ridiculous is to think that you need something like this to raise awareness and hope in helps in the future.

Color me stupid but i am sure that most people who need to be aware, are aware, it gets rammed down our throats on a daily basis.

There is nothing funnier than listening to some dude on stage, sprout off about reducing CO2 levels with this event is contributing massively to the problem.

There are other ways to get the message across that won't contribute to the problem and well help in the future.

My wife was watching a bit of this from Sydney last night.

I just rolled my eyes when I saw one of the performers was wearing an anti-nuclear power shirt. Talk about being counter-productive! If reducing global CO2 emissions is the goal, building more nuclear power plants (to replace coal/oil/gas plants) is one of the best ways of doing it.

sorry rockstar. bloc party has come and gone.

The "say no to nuclear power" shirts are ridiculous. Nuclear power to my knowledge is a clean way to go. Unfortunately I dont believe wind and gas power are viable enough to completely replace other sources.

Doesn't everyone need to be aware? Who needs to be aware?

Oi.

It's funny, you know.

The same people screaming that they want their SUVs want the environmentalists to live in caves.

I am an environmentalist. My CO2 footprint is probably half of what most peoples are. I have never owned a car... I walk, bike and take public transit. I have a clothes line that I use instead of the dryer. My house has been using the flourescent bulbs for 5 years now. Yet when I tell someone I'm going to watch the game on TV tonight I get "YOU CAN'T DO THAT! IT USES ELECTRICITY! HYPOCRITE!". Now I know my friends are joking, but still. It's a common thing for people that are doing NOTHING for the environment to just look for ways to mock those that actually give a damn.

As an environmentalist, I'm not advocating the end of rock concerts. So why the hell would be against one that is being put on as a means to educate and gather support on this issue?

Anyone else catch Madonna's massive "get on your feet you mother .....'s!"

She is a performer through and through. Pretty cool I thought.

I also just saw some of Genesis' clip... for trying to get people's attention they sure don't mind dropping F-bombs to make a point more regularly than a Darryl Sutter presser!

Hmm, I wanted to see Prince but it seems he cancelled his Live Earth appearance to play back in the club in Minnesota he hasn't played since Purple Rain (where it was also filmed).

I am absolutley suprised that so many have negative feelings about this event. This a much needed event & not even just for individual habits but to hopefully get the corporate world in play. Imagine how effective it would be if corporations competed for business by the means of environmental contributions, prime example fuel & car companies. How is this bad?

When you are the biggest polluter on the planet on July 7,2007 and you consider the event's message, it's pretty easy to laugh at and criticize this event.

But that is exactly the point of the event! If we weren't the biggest polluters on the planet, then it wouldn't be needed? I don't understand your point at all?
