Fun and/or easy U of C courses? - Calgarypuck Forums - The Unofficial Calgary Flames Fan Community

I'm going to try and survey all of you current or former U of C students.

I have only four courses left to take, and then I graduate. Unexpectedly, they all happen to be open options. I need help!

Seeing as how registration starts tomorrow, I was wondering if I could get some of your opinions on courses you took that were easy (in terms of workload) or very interesting/fun. Courses that are both easy AND fun would be ideal.

Now, I can only take one 200-level course, so any 300-levels that you would recommend would also be greatly appreciated.

There is this history of music class. I believe the quizzes are a "name that tune" session.

Mango has taken the course and will be able to shed some light.....

Yeah, Music History 309.XX is what it is, IIRC. When I took it, it was the History of the Rolling Stones. They've also offered, U2, 80's, Led Zepplin, Funk, etc. I hear this time they're offerring Jimmy Hendrix. There's a performance component, but as long as you get on stage, you'll get a good mark. When I did it there was 1 take home final and 1 mid-term both where you regurgitated what you heard in class. Plus the name-that-tune component.

GEOG Options tend to be interesting as well (not sure if you have the pre-reqs for that)

There's a 300 level Geophysics class on natural disasters that tends to be popular with people looking to fill up their options as well

I had a course at UWO - English (SF and Fantastic literature). Get credit for books you have already read (or have seen the movie for).

Any of the psych courses - quite interesting and really easy. Econ 201 - is Holden still around? That guy was a hoot.

Geophysics 375 - Natural Disasters and Earth Phenomenon. A class of watching Discovery channel specials on volcanoes and tornadoes. A nice warm looking class to take in January.

Geography of Australia and Oceana - much the same as the above, but I think it was because of a prof that has surely retired by now.

Bio (317) - People and Plants. More work than the above, and somewhat hard if Muckajee is teaching. Still kind of interesting.

Obligatory Film studies course.

They got rid of that course a few years ago

Yeah TOTF and Calf, I'm actually in that class this spring! I went totally off the board.

Although it's Broadway Musicals, which is actually a bit tough. Two mid-terms (short answer, long answer, and name-that-tune), an 8-page paper, and a written final! Ouch!

GLGY 307. Basically beginners geology and paleontology. I found it interesting, but the prof was...boring as dirt. I felt bad for him. Although, he was a phd student.

I'm taking the natural disasters one too. I'm happy to hear it's got vids.

I took that class in my 2nd or 3rd year, it was great! There was no homework in that class, and the tests were relatively easy...

Well, I didn't do any homework...

Also, GEOG 213 (I think) - Current World Affairs... it was taught by Slezak when I was there, I wonder if it's still going on? Easier than a high school social studies class.

Actaully, if you want an easy course, go take Ca orporate Finance 300 level course or above.... it's REALLY easy.

Bio 307 - Ecology - Very easy A and I never even took Bio in Highschool. Multiple Choice exams (3 total).

ARKY 325 - Interesting and another science with no pre-req - exams consist of 25 Multiple choice questions. (3 total).

Oh, and I heard German 315 was a breeze.

Yup, English 393. Science-Fiction and Fantasy. Easy Slam Dunk, that fun if you're into sci-fi.

If Heckel is still around try and get a class with him, he's great!

Sociology of sports if they're offering it this semester. 2 MC midterms and an MC Final. And last year we had Kelly Hrudy as a guest speaker.

Just don't get stuck with Calf in your band and you'll be okay.

Music History 300.XX is an awesome course.

English 393 (Fantasy) is pretty fun, I took it as a summer course and it essentially turned into a book club where we read Dracula, Frankenstein, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and more and then talked about them in class (which was nice as I have already read all those books a million times).

Naturally, all the "scopes for dopes," and "rocks for jocks" classes will be relatively easy as well.
