Default Ode to nuclear power

In a blatant attempt to grab attention, I hereby fata myself

The trees are all felled
The coal has all been delved

Oil reserves have reached new lows
Natural gas no longer flows

Build a reactor, lets make haste!
We can worry later about the waste!

Hey! Turn up my AC!
Hey! Fuel up my Humvee!

Don't worry about nuclear waste. I hear there are bunkers under the Euphrates that can be used to store such materials.

I won't speak for the 'tree' comment because I don't know much about Timber resources but . . .

Just so you know Oil and Natural gas reserves have been increasing year over year in the world for years. This trend also includes 2006.

As for coal, proved discovered coal reserves can be burned at it's current rate for 197 more years.

Just thought I'd let you know what the reality of the day is.

Very correct Alberta Natural Gas production peaked in 2002 and the US a long time ago. However only in Eurpope and North America is Natural gas worth so much. In most third world countries they just flare off associated gas at oil wells because the cost of capturing it and taking it to market far exceeds the price they're able to recieve. However with increasing LNG projects worldwide gas prices are going to rise while domestic prices will fall as worldwide producers will be able sell into the North American and European markets.

Humorous was when you posted your poem in the 'Alberta goes Nuclear' thread. Reposting it and creating your own thread for it seemed like it was for social commentary purposes. Therefore I engaged the commentary in the poem.

Hehe, I like the poem. Nuclear is a great idea, especially since Canada is fortunate enough to have the shield to bury all the waste in.

I was listening to Quirks & Quarks on CBC a while back and they had an environmental scientist (can't remember specific field) on to talk about energy production and biofuel. Main gist of it was this new fascination of using ethonol from corn and wheat is a brutal idea that won't help much beyond the short term. He argued that a more promising idea came from using wood chips and sawdust, especially in the wake of the Pine Beetle.

He estimated that if we were to convert the entire stock of biowaste affected by the Pine Beetle into energy, it would be enough to support Canada for the next 27 years of sustained growth (or something like that).

Course, the problem is getting all that matter to a power plant usually ends up costing more then it take to product, but there are some developments going on to address that.

I wouldn't be surprised that within our lifetime we will see a shift away from fossile fuels like oil and natural gas and a move towards a different form of biofuel. The funny part is that is really isn't much of a move forwards technologically... we relied on biofuel for thousands of years to meet our energy needs.
