Default Severe Thunderstorm Watch w/potential for heavy rain

Severe thunderstorm Watch for Calgary issued by Environment Canada

City of Calgary
2:49 PM MDT Sunday 24 June 2007
Severe thunderstorm watch for
City of Calgary issued

Severe thunderstorms with large hail and heavy rain are possible this afternoon in areas north of High River.

This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.

Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements. If threatening weather approaches take immediate safety precautions.
At 2:30 PM MDT a severe thunderstorm was observed on radar 30 km northeast of Nordegg. The thunderstorm is moving very little so heavy rain over 50 to 80 mm is expected under the thunderstorm. Large hail is also possible.

Thunderstorms are developing over the foothills this afternoon. The potential exists for some thunderstorms to produce large hail, heavy rain and strong wind gusts.

I was just out getting groceries with a freshly waxed car and saw 'black-as-Toby's-ass' clouds to the west so I pinned 'er for home. 50-80mils? Hoping this is another one of those false alerts...

THe storm you saw and the one in the warning are not the same.

Things are looking pretty good today for some Tstorms around here though. Probably similar to yesterday. Nothing too crazy.

I like to hear that since I know you follow these things but 80mm of rain sounded crazy when I read it!

Did anything actually come out of the last couple warnings? We seem to get one almost daily at this time of year.

At the time I edit this I'm hearing lots of banging in the sky in the NW. Sky is getting very dark.

The storm in the NW looks like it will just skim the city. There actually is quite a bit or rain coming out of it now. It was looking like it was gonna weaken about half an hour ago but has become more organized.

There is another one just to the SW of us. If it keeps going the way it is it should give us a direct hit. I dont think it will be a big one...but...you never know.

Wow, just looked at the latest radar on that storm. It has really turned into something. Intense rain to the west/north west of the city. If the storm sat in place for an hour it would easily put down 70mm.

Could be some good stuff up in the NW for the next half an hour to an hour.

Weird. At the moment Enviroment Canada has a Severe Thunderstorm Watch and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect at the same time. Don't think I've ever seen both at the same time.

High and dry here in Hillhurst. Not a drop after it looked pretty nasty for a bit.

Had a good 'ole hailstorm out here in West Springs. It kept building and building and I started to worry that it would turn into a car-denting, garden-flattening type storm but fortunately it only got as large as marble sized hail.

Hailed here for a bit in Erinwoods, now it's raining.

Yeah, and I just washed my car. Go figure I wash my car, and it rains.
