My co-worker and I walked down for a free hat, and the lineups just before noon were insane. After walking around for a bit, we found one of the lines much smaller and moving quickly, so we got our free hats. Man, I think I have seven cowboy hats now.

Still, it's fun to see folks walking around downtown with them on. It gives a nice sense of community.

Its a pretty good gimmick from a marketing for the city. They got corporate sponsors to give out the hats a couple of weeks before Stampede. So when the tourists start to pour into the cities, it looks like all Calgarians are true to their western origins.

It was easy to get one in the afternoon when they were down to only smalls but MAN, small means extra-tiny small. I think only kids can fit them. I tried one and it's pulling out my scalp.
