Lake Bonavista
Thinking about moving to Lake Bonavista. Anybody have any insights on what it is like to live in that community? There are a lot of nice places to live, but I have found that this one seems to really be what I'm looking for.

Grew up there, my parents still live there. Great place and the Lake is great. Not one these exaggerated ponds with a couple trees around.

Grew up there as well, has a couple of schools in the neighborhood, some nice parks the lake. Lots of shopping nearby. Big yards, and a thriving Jehovah's witness community.

Grew up there as well. Great community at the time. Not sure of the demographics today. Seems like the community grew up and didn't replace the kids. If you have kids I'm sure it would still be great but they might have the lake all to themselves.

Yeah, what I find is the kids all grew up, left, and all the oldsters are still there. Not many kids running around. But that's the same with a lot of communities.

I have just had a house totally rebuilt, but in Lake Bonavista Downs. It is the community just to the East of Acadia drive. The biggest difference is that you cannot get the Lake Bonavista membership, and therfor do not have lake access.
It will be up for sale in the next number of days. We are just going through the appraisal process to determine the value. It will be somewhere in the $500K to $600K range due to the extensive rebuild. In many communities, this house would be worth almost a million. It is too bad we didnt start with this house in Marda Loop or something like that, but hey, you play the cards you are dealt. Believe me, this house does not dissapoint. I'd live there myself, but I dont want to lose my 15 minute downtown access.
If you are (or anyone else) is interested in Bonavista Downs, fire me a PM or email and we can continue the discussion.

True, that might be more than the community can bare ... I'll have to wait until the series of assesments is complete. It should be over $500K though. It will definately set the new highmark for houses in the downs (never where you want to be as an investment prop, but so be it).
The house is worth the money ... but, it will definately take the right person to appreciatte that. It will require an emotional response from the buyer. The buyer will have to love the house and not care about lake access.

As for the community of Lake Bonavista (and the similar Downs), I like it. It is nice and quiet. Lots of shopping - things like groceries, gas, bakery, etc are right there in a nice little strip mall. If you want big time shopping, Southcenter is only 3 minutes away. And then you have Maclead Trail also. The C-Train is within driving distance.
Oh, in the Downs (and I assume Lake Bonavista), the paved back alleys are really nice. The charges for those just came off the property taxes last year, I think. It would be awesome to have your rear facing garage accessible without mud or snow.
Like I said, I'd live there, if I didnt place such a premium on driving into downtown. If you dont, I am sure you'll like it in Bonavista.

Wow. A few of us from that area, eh? I'm actually a Lake Bonaventure kid, but being next door to Lake Bonavista, I know the area, and it's a great place to live. If you can afford it.
ps, Bonaventure kicks Bonavista's arse. Way cleaner, plus our island has waterfalls. WATERFALLS!

Willow Park 4L!!
If you really want a great neighbourhood, look north in Willow Park. It's a better neighbourhood, and clearly better athletes, we'd kick Nickle's but all the time.

I grew up there as well. Awesome community for a kid to grow up in. We lived on Lake Twintree Drive, kind of at the far corner area of the Andrew Sibbald field.
Some of our old neighbours still live in the same houses as when I was a kid. And I'm OLD, so thats a looooong time ago.

Are you north or south of Lake Sylvan Drive ??
My mother in law used to live in that area but south of LSD.
She had lake priveleges. Not so sure about the north side though...
