Concussion - need advice
Hey guys,
Got back from playing hockey a while ago, during the game I took a forearm to the right side of my head. My ear hurt a lot for a while but now that pain is gone. However my right pupil is significantly larger than my left pupil. I have no memory loss and am not dazed or confused so I know it isn't that bad.
However I am planning on going to bed soon and I hear that it is not good to go to bed soon after having a minor concussion (If that is in fact what I have). Any suggestions on what to do, I am drinking lots of water and will soon take a tylenol.

Well at this time of night that is a huge pain. I think I'll just listen to the advice of the one person I spoke to and take some tylenol, then wake up at 2am to see if my head is feeling fine.

I had at least 7 in my life (none knocked unconscious though), but the last one in November where I'd have crazy headaches and for an hour after the forearm (like you), I was literally seeing stars at the corner of my upper left eye. It was like I was seeing a transparent fan through the top of my left eye. It scared the crap outta me. Anyway, I don't think the Tylenol thing is the worst idea, but if you want something more stong Advil or Motrin is probably better (I'm not a doc though). Go to the doc in the morning though to get checked out (it's probably for the better, even though nothing will likely be diagnosed).

***GO TO THE ER ASAP!!!!***
Seriously, if you have a difference in pupil size that is new since your injury, this implies compression of some of you optic nerves possibly due to brain swelling!!!! If you are still up and reading this, get your ass to the ER ASAP!! No joke, You need to be assessed by a medical doctor and get your head CT'd!

If just one pupil is larger than the other, see the doctor immediately, says Dr. Slakter. "This is a case where a matter of an hour or two could save your life," he says.

Here we have a toll free # called BCNurseLine at 1 866 215 4700, where you can ask questions about your condition.
In Ontario it's called Telehealth Ontario at 1 866 797 0000. Try giving them a call.

Calgary Health Region has a similiar line set up (943-LINK). Very informative, RN's available 24/7 and able to give advice.

OMG so true!
I hope he is just at the Dr's right now!
Obviously Im not mikka, but im hoping since he was smart enough to get advice from a friend and also ask for it here, I'm sure he did a quick google search and found the information needed in time.

Yeah, I'm really hoping he comes back and tells us he's fine. This is definitely not the best thing to read at 7 in the morning.

I've had several concussions with some being fairly severe, one going basically undiagnosed which leads me to having some minor memory and co-ordination problems when I exert myself.
Even at the slightest hint of a blow to the head, where there's a headache you should go and see a doctor. If your pupils are dialated or mismatched you need to go to emergency before you go to sleep.

Out of curiosity do any of you folks that have had major concussions still show some symptoms years later.
My last good headshot was 5 years ago, and I still get dizzy when I do anything that raises my heart rate. And when I get the least bit tired, my memory goes and I get incredibly irritable, and I get headaches.
Just wondering if I'm alone.
