Default Father's Day Gifts?

With Father's Day fast approaching, and the fact my father has basically hated every gift I have ever gotten him, I was wondering if anyone on CP has any great suggestions for a gift?

We can't really give you any advice that won't be more crap generic gifts unless you give us more details about what sorts of hobbies or things he likes. I mean, golf + tools is usually the standard fair.

If he likes scotch, a good single malt is never a bad thing.

I bought the old man a painting by his favorite artist.

Last year I bought him some books

I always get him a good bottle of scotch, and we have a couple of drinks and play some chess. Sometimes time spent is better then any gift, especially when I kick the crap out of him

Very true. I know my dad would much rather spend time with his daughters than get some useless piece of crap. Plus, what do you give a man who has everything he wants/needs anyways? Usually though we'll get him a nice bottle of wine, or books or something like that.

Price range would be about $50.

The problem I find is he really doesn't have many hobbies. And he's not a huge fan of knick knacks that I have tried to get him in the past.

Sounds like a general gift certificate is in order then. Where does he shop the most?

Here's what I want for fathers day.

Sports, beer, a steak, and everyone out of the house.

The question is, what's the politest way for me to asked everyone to bugger off (but make some chicken wings before you go)?

The thing is your dad is likely in a position where there isn't anything in the world that costs $50 that if he really wanted to buy- he'd just go out and buy.

So do something with your dad. Make it a boys night/ day out. Maybe it's going to shoot some stick, play a round of golf, or even hanging out at the Legion with him. Especially if its something that will get him out of the house and a day without you mom to nag him.

If that doesn't work for you, you can never go wrong with:

If he hasn't liked anything before, maybe he just doesn't want anythng. Take him for a beer and ask him questions, get some of those fatherly pearls of wisdom.
