Maynard James Keenen second band, 'A Perfect Circle' released their third album, eMOTIVe today purposely on the date of the U.S. elections. It is mostly a cover album covering great peace and protest songs including a creepy version of John Lennon's 'Imagine'.
The site describes the album as being about, 'WAR, PEACE, LOVE, AND GREED.'
aperfectcircle.com
Lots of other great things on the site too both political and artistic and a beautiful site to navigate around.
In my opinion the album is a must have for any Tool, APC, or Maynard fan, and should turn a few heads in other circles too. Like the album before it, 'Thirteenth Step' and to a certain degree, 'Mer Des Noms', expect a more mellow experience as ooposed to the angry music from Maynard's earlier days.
On a side note, when I was at the APC concert here in Calgary over a year ago, just after the U.S. invaded Iraq, the loudest cheer of the day (from an already vocal crowd) erupted when a talkative Maynard (much more talkative than the Tool concert about 4 months previous) proclaimed:
'I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize for my president, and my country.'

Listening to the cover of "Imagine" right now....wow, it's dark. I like it. Good version of it

The imagine cover is amazing...
The man has a beautiful voice, and is probably the most creative arist out on the market today.
I had a chance to see him live...
He does an amazing job in both APC and Tool.

Huge APC and Tool fan.
Did you know that MJK was in the military?
I am not shy about proclaiming my adoration for artists who have much different political views than I do. It doesn't matter to me in the least.
I will be picking that up in short order. Thanks for the heads up

Yes, whatever he believes he's still an amazing artist. If I like an artist I like them, if I don't I don't. It doesn't have much to do with their world outlook. Though it could stand to reason that we gravitate towards people and ideas we agree with. But I think that's what's great about great art and music, it can get us to think differently, examine other viewpoints.
I did know he was in the military! B)
My only thought against the album is that, like the other APC albums, it could be a bit longer. Especially with the length of the latter two Tool albums. Otherwise, it's fantastic! You're welcome for the heads up.

Call me lame, but I only heard of APC after I started following Billy Corgan's then new band (Zwan), and only then because I had to find out more about Paz Lenchantin. I'm no celebrity worshipper, but damn she's fine.
APC's stuff is really good. I'll be checking the new album out.

There's actually quite the fued going on right now between Corgan and APC...
Since Billy had former APC bassist Paz in his short term band, and now James Iha formerly of the smashing pumpkins in now in APC.
The two are not on good terms...

For what reason?
Just the musical quality, the message, or something else?
It's definatley a concept album which has an appeal unto itself...

The "what's going on" cover is fantastic...

I agree with FDW, I like it a lot more....but I like the first one very much. I've found it addictive to be honest. When I first got it it didn't leave my CD player for about 3 months.
I love the changes in tempo across the album. The slow brooding songs are probably my favorites. Right now I'm particular to Disappear, it's probably my favorite track.
I can't wait for the next Tool album. Lateralus blew me away.

Lateralus blew me away too, and is one of my favorite albums of all time. Musically it's amazing, lyrically not much touches it, and mood wise. Well, it's dark, but it's filled with hope. It's a beautiful experience.
Supposedly they have already started recording some tracks for their next album, Tool fans. Shouldn't be too much more of a wait.
Maynard was also starting a collaboration with Trent Reznor but it has been shelved for a while because their productions studios were battling over rights or something like that. Another case of money standing in the way of art.
EDIT: Spelling

Just heard the Imagine cover on the radio for the first time. Haunting. I love it. Was at Wal-Mart picking up a few things and thought I'd grab the CD. It was on sale for under $10, but it was the 'edited' version. I passed and will pick it up later in the week unedited.

3 Libras and Orestes ARE amazing. I would actually say I think I enjoy both the first two APC albums equally.
Yeah, that Project Tapeworm ws the one I was talking about. I believe it got shelved cause of the reasons I stated above. Did you have other info on it?
Did you know it was also originally rumoured to include The Tea Party's own Jeff Martin? Maybe an untrue rumor, but it was one I heard, and one that made sense. Martin's ability and love for unusual instruments would have fit in nicely with those guys ideas.

This album is a lot more mellow than I remember A perfect circle being. I definetly like tool a lot more, but that cover of imagine is good stuff.
I saw the video for counting bodies like sheep, its pretty damn good, you should check it out if you get the chance.
