Ducks on the Block

The Ducks have waded into the trade pool with a few deals but are looking to make plenty more.

At this point we are still taking offers on our entire roster but are focusing on moving a few players more than others.

Shawn Bates - A checking line center with good speed and defensive capabilities. If you have some cap room and are looking for an upgrade in your depth, make an offer. Traded

Mike Cammalleri - A big break out season on a rising team has pushed up the value of Cammi. We are taking offers to see what's out there. Cammi could be moved for a similar player with similar contract or a package of younger NHL forwards. Traded

Patrick Elias - Elias was brought in for scoring help but we will move for younger player(s) that can put up points. Traded

Trevor Daley - Looking to move the infamous Daley for another dman. The Ducks want to turn a new page on this ugly chapter of history and we are sure someone would like a young dman who has some good upside with top 4 potential.

Aaron Johnson - He's young and still developing his all around skills. Known more for his offensive abilities. NHL ready, we are looking for similar return. May package with another player for an upgrade.

Paul Martin - Top 4 type dman with good value. Looking for a similar younger dman in return. Traded

David Tanabe - Good depth dman, looking for similar return.

Vitali Vishnevsky - See Tanabe.

Lubomir Vishnovsky - Puck moving dman with solid offensive ability. Puts up good numbers in both leagues and enjoyed a positive rerate this year as a reward. We will explore many options here, a similar player, a package of either a forward and dman or two dmen.

Bates Dumped

Checking line center Shawn Bates has been moved to the Nords in a salary dump. The Ducks receive a 3rd round pick in return and clear up 4.20 in cap space. Thanks to the Nords and Cousin Rob for the deal.

Short Stay For Elias

Patrick Elias will be trading in his speedo for a six-shooter as the Ducks have sent the veteran winger and 1 Million in cap off to Dallas in exchange for winger Raffe Torres and dman Dmitri Kalinin.

Elias' stay was short with the Ducks after arriving in a deal with the Oilers. With the flip, the Ducks have turned JP Dumont, Bryan Allen and MA Pouliot into Stephen Weiss, Scotty Upshall, Raffe Torres and Dimitri Kalinin.

"I'm happy with the outcome of this flip." stated Ducks GM Shiver. "We end up turning two Roster players into four which we hope will help us improve this up coming year."

I like that Elias trade for Dallas. I assume Anaheim couldn't afford him which made it happen but Elias is a top 1st line player (but so is Conroy to 1 gm) and that's a great player to have.

Dallas would like to thank Anaheim for the easy negotiation.

Although we've actually been looking to build our depth, this opportunity was something we couldn't pass up. The opportunity to bring in another legit 1st liner (and another player to build our weak forward corps upon) at the cost of a #4 dman and a 2B/3A winger was acceptable to us. We feel like that we now have 4 legit front line CPHL'ers in Pronger, Elias, Afinogenov and Gionta. Sure, Elias is going to get a big ticket this summer but we dropped 7.5 million in the deal and got another million in cap to make the deal possible. Getting a perennial all-star in Elias is a difficult job around here and we're glad to have him aboard. That 8th place finish last year wasn't good enough and this trade is just another step in building into something greater.
