Sharks Get Their Man!
The San Jose Sharks were heavily pursuing a young starting goalie in the CPHL and we feel we finally got our guy.
A great thanks must go out to the Tampa Bay GM, known as DroopyDrew! He really worked with the Sharks to make this happen for us after finding out Philly was attempting to play us both a little. In the end, we think we got a good deal and are extremely happy to have Budaj between the pipes this upcoming season.
The deal brings in some other great talent as well. Please welcome to the Sharks lineup:
Peter Budaj, G 24yrs 77ov RFA
At 24 yrs old, he's already played 1 full season as the starter in the NHL putting up solid #'s for an average team. With a 77 OV rating, he may not be the ideal starter, but he's no slouch and we are confident he can carry the weight. We're certainly no worse off then with Gerber anyways.
Oleg Sarykin, LW - 26yrs 73ov $2.2M/yr
"Freakin'" Saprykin as this GM likes to call him, is a talented young winger who still possesses some good potential and is starting to look like a solid two way player. He played 59 games with a dismal Phoenix Coyotes team in the NHL racking up 14 goals and 34 points and was a very impressive +8 considering his team. After joining the MUCH more talented team in Ottawa and being cosidered basically a depth player, his numbers declined but we're confident he'll end up with a team who needs his help this off-season.
Mark Mitera, D - 19yrs, Top 2 potential
At 6'3" 202lbs, Mitera has the ideal size, strength, toughness and skating ability to be a future top pairing defenseman in the NHL. We are very excited about his potential within our organization.
Kirill Koltsov, D - 24yrs, Top 4 potential
Koltsov is a very talented young Russian but has chosen to play in his motherland the last few years after showing incredible promise in the AHL. With the NHL's Vancouver Canucks in possible need of more defensive depth soon, we believe he could get another shot at the NHL this season and if he does should be a great Power Play specialist.
2nd round pick
Pretty self expanatory.
Leaving the Sharks is:
Martin Gerber, G - 32yrs 77ov $6Mil/yr
Michael Frolik, RW - 19yrs ECHL 1st line potential
Glen Metropolit, C - 33yrs 72ov $0.65M/yr
The Sharks look forward to building around Budaj now and are open to listening to any offers from other GM's, big or small.
