Default Wanted - Goaltenders

Hey all,

I'm doing some research at the U of C (for my PhD) examining visual perception of goaltenders and how it affects performance and I'm looking for a few good goaltenders to participate in my study.

Here's the gist of the study (I can give more details if necessary):

I'm going to record the eye movements of goaltenders as they perform3 tasks: stationary shots (with occlusion), one-time shots (with lateral slide) and deflections. Basically I need goaltenders to come out for 2-2.5 hours, warm-up, get set-up with the equipment and go through the testing (until performance criteria are met). For your help you will get an overview of your behaviour immediately after the test, a copy of the results and follow-up when they are published/complete (only place you can do this in the world!) and a $50 honorarium.

Unfortunately, I need high calibre goaltenders, so I'm looking for individuals who meet the following criteria:

- 18 years old
- minimum Major Junior or Varsity experience (will consider Junior A)
- played at a competitive level in the last year
- goalies should also be available between July 16-20 (8:00-3:45)

It can be a pain getting high level goaltenders for these studies so I'm casting a pretty wide net (if you or someone you know anyone who is close to meeting the criteria let me know) and figured I'd see if the CP community could be of any help. So, if you or someone you know would be interested in participating send me a PM or get in touch via email: panchuk@kin.ucalgary.ca.

Thanks!

Cool. I saw some media coverage on some of your earlier research, and it seems pretty interesting. I also took a class with Joan Vickers during my undergrad (I'm a former KNES major), and followed some of her research that she did with basketball players.

Not sure if you've tried, but you might have some success posting ads with the various goaltending/hockey schools that are out there... here is a pretty high level one run by Eli Wilson (the guy who trains Ray Emery); they are in Calgary and apparently do a lot of WHL and AJHL work: http://www.worldprogoal.com/

Thanks guys, I wish I could use the weekend warriors it would make my job a lot easier, it's really tough to find good goaltenders. The research is really interesting and I think this next batch of testing will take it a major step forward, in terms of applicability and training goaltenders.

I've got in touch with most of the major teams in the area (varisty, junior, etc.) and some of the goaltender schools (GDI, World Pro) but if you've got any other leads I really would appreciate it.

I really wish I could help you out, but I only participate in 'good' studies anyway. I would prefer if this study was done at a more prestigious institute.
Just kidding.
Good Luck

Ahh, that's not fair! You know what I meant!

Let me re-phrase that:

"I'd like to use the weekend warriors who, if you're anything like the goaltender playing for my beer league team, faces more rubber than the average goaltender, but in order to get this by my thesis committee and actually graduate (after nearly a dozen years in school) I need goaltenders who are currently playing, or just finished playing, a higher level of hockey."

You know

Hey Hockey PHD, I'd love to come there and play goal, I'm a really quick and agile athletic type of goalie, but I only play recreationally and in rec. leagues. If you do change your mind, or do decide to throw in a good goalie who doesn't have the credentials your looking for(who knows if you might need a goalie outside of your controlled variable), don't hesitate to ask me, because I'd be interested. Thanks.

You Must have missed the part about playing at a competetive level last year, hey?

Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example... sounds impressive, right? But have you ever seen what happens if you put something in acid? It dissolves! If we had all this acid in our cells, we'd all dissolve! So much for the Theory of Evolution, Check MATE!
