I think the wife and I are going to catch the Montreal show. And the article says they are coming back to North America in October, so maybe then habby?

I was as big a Police fan as anyone 20-25 years ago. I would have even been excited to see them 10-15 year ago. But now, blah. Sting has diluted himself so badly. I don't think I've looked at him the same since that Rod Stewart/Bryan Adams song.

I admit that I made a point to catch the grammy's to see them. I didn't like their rendition of Roxanne a great deal last night, but they were okay considering that they haven't really played together much for like 25 years. Although some of that allure of them being a band that would never get back together is lost now. Although, I might make an effort to get out an see them as I've been a fan of their's for over a decade myself.

I can't believe Calgary isn't getting this show.
Guess I should brush up on the lyrics to Sally.

I'm really disappointed. I've been waiting to hear news of their tour for weeks now and they aren't coming to Calgary. Off to Vancouver...

But they're going to Europe and other places and then coming back to North America. There is still a chance!!

Didn't CJAY 92 have a big concert announcement for today? I thought this would be it.

With the Edmonton show being a TBA site, maybe they are looking at going to Commonwealth Stadium rather than Rexall? In which case it would make sense to be there rather than in Calgary

This is honestly embarassing for Calgary. We really need a real outdoor (or 50 000+ indoor) stadium. Same thing happened with the U2 tour about a decade ago. Im shocked that Calgary still gets overlooked in place of Edmonton. Is it simply because they're the more central city in the province?

I'm assuming its venue size and they are at least looking at commonwealth.
taking rexall over the dome would make less sense
agree Calgary has suffered concertwise for a generation for a lack of a decent outdoore venue

Are there really any football stadium playing bands any more? I can't think of any. Even U2 is playing arenas now.
I'd be pretty surprised if the Police could still fill a venue the size of Commonwealth.

60,081 capacity for Commonwealth and 35,560 (expandable to 60,000) for MacMahon? Is that accurate? Just what I pulled of wikipedia.
When was the last rock show at MacMahon? Too bad we can't do that anymore.

The Eagles or Supertramp, in the 1970s I think. TOO NOISY, complained the neighbors.
The Calgary Blues and Roots Festival put on a show there, in 2004 IIRC.

The issue with McMahon isn't really with the noise bylaw..Lilith Faire was there a couple of years, as well as the Blues Fest in 2004. The real issue is that in the 90's Edmonton went out to try to get shows for Commonwealth, got a few, did a good job with them, and showed that Calgarians would go up to Edmonton to see a stadium show. Add in the extra thousands of seats that you can sell, and it's a no brainer.

the implication on one of the Calgary rock radio stations this morning was that part of the holdup in announcing the Edmonton (or possibly still a Calgary) tour date, has to do with NHL playoffs.
this made sense to me at first, but now I'm less sure. you can't really wait until either team is officially eliminated, so I thought it was maybe around scheduling of first round games...but the Edmonton/Alberta date wouldn't be until June, which would be about the 3rd round of the playoffs, and they've booked VAncouver...so I dunno
unless its harder to move a concert in and out in a day in an older rink than at GM place??
