Default Our washing machine put grey spots all over our white clothes...

Would anyone with a knowledge of how things things work have any idea what that could be from?

I'm completely baffled.

If it's doing it all the time it could very well be some grease or oil getting mixed in with the water due to a bad drum or agitator seal.

^^ that would be my guess.

But where do you live? City water or well water? When we lived out on our property out east, the well water was so bad that even with every water system we tried the water still ruined clothes. And white clothes would always get red and brownish stains (not grey) but that may depend on the minerals in your water.

We had that problem too. We moved into our brand new condo, and it stained a TON of our clothes. They replaced the washing machine, but we were S.O.L with all the clothes it wrecked.

Who knew a washer had a transmission, that was news to me too, but since I had to replace it twice on the same machine I know.
