Default Shrek 3 sets animated film record opening...3rd alltime

Quote:
Produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount, "Shrek the Third" was the third-biggest debut ever, coming in behind the $151.1 million haul of this month's "Spider-Man 3" and the $135.6 million gross of last summer's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

How are people taking the film industry seriously when they say they're 'losing millions of dollars' off illegal internet downloads of their movies?

It's a freaking outrage how much they cry about lost revenue while they rake in record profits.

I wish they would calculate movies in terms of ticket sales.. because each summer something is breaking something with higher ticket prices.. it would be nice to know which movie actually sold more ticket.

Good point MMF.

So with what they pulled in from the first weekend...they'll be able to pay all the salaries, probably ALL the production costs, so everything from here on in is profit.

And they're still complaining? Wow.

There are many movies that were produced and lose money. I attend alot of movies and for the most part most of them are crap. It's getting harder to find a quality movie worth the price of admission.

Pear Harbour 2001 was a financial bust. With all the hype and production costs, they didn't come close to recouping their investment.

Perhaps they should start making good movies then.

Even with what you've said, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Like many have said, the people that pirate these movies, are people that wouldn't go to seem them anyways, legally.

Shrek 3 was actually pretty entertaining, I was surprised. I prefer it to the second one.

don't really agree, the third one wasn't filled with as much "witty humour" and Charming annoyed me in the first 2 enough that he was too much in the third but it was still pretty funny. Here In Lethbridge they had it playing in 3 or 4 theatres

I can't recall where, but I once saw a list that adjusted for inflation. Gone With The Wind apparently would be the highest grossing movie ever based on modern day ticket prices.

I had passes to see "The Ex" today, and Sunridge Spectrum was a mass of people to see Shrek. I'm not sure how many theatres Shrek was being shown on, but at 3:25 they were announcing all showings of Shrek before 5pm were sold out.
(And "The Ex" was pretty bad. There were maybe 25 people in the theatre)
