Deep Woods Off works for me. Along with a good cigar cloud, a bug zapper, a citronella candle and a heavy garlic diet. I find this also keeps away meter readers and all but the most dedicated of my beer mooching neighbours.

The best repellant is bringing along someone else who naturally attacts a cloud of mosquitos.

Yes, I'm that guy.

Deep Woods Off has the highest deet content. In addition, mosquitos are turned off by citrus (hence citronella candles, etc.) so I always eat a lot of citrus fruit in the summer. That helps a lot as well.

Every single summer, I tell people this, vitamin B. Why? I don't know. But vitamin B once a day keeps the little suckers away. Well, not entirely, but I only get about 2 or 3 bites a summer.

Firefly's right. Get the product with the highest Deet content you can find. I still have some Muskol liquid with 99% deet but they don't sell it anymore. That stuff keeps everything away (including the wife).
I'm not sure of the content of it nowadays but I believe the Muskol liquid has a higher Deet consentration than the Muskol spray.

Spray lemon scented soap on your lawn. Cheaper than buying tonnes of citronella candles and works the same if not better... and your grass looks clean too!

Hmm... don't wanna start a new thread for this, but then I feel bad about hijacking this one...

I have citronella on my balcony (I live on the 26th floor in a condo) and the mosquitos still won't go away!

Any one have any tips? I don't know why the mosquitos are so freaking high to begin with.

Mild spray, doesn't even have deet. I find if I don't do the Vitamin B, I am literally puffy red with bites, but with a little bit of spray and vitamin B, I'm good to go.

Dumb question, but is that ingested?

When I opened my front door to grab the paper this morning, there were about 10 - 20 waiting for me to let them in the house.

That is very true. Some people just seem to attract them more for whatever the reason.

I don't get a lot of bites ever. I had a girlfriend once who was an absolute magnet.

Youd think science could come up with something using natual hormones and pheremones.

Well I'm going to go downstairs, pound back a half litre of lemon juice, a vitiman B and spray myself with some deep woods off befroe I start clearing all the Sod out of my back yard. Glad you made the thread, the little buggers have done a nice job attacking me the past few evenings while I was working in the yard.

It's not necessarily a person's hormones or pheremones that causes it, but also their diet... Mosquitos like sweet smelling people which is why if you eat citrus, you're less likely to be bitten. If you ingest a lot of sweet fruit or sugar, you're more likely to be bitten. So the question is, what are these people eating?

I've been told that eating bananas makes you more attractive to mosquitoes. Not sure what it is in bananas that gets into your blood stream though.

potassium. they're also very sweet smelling to mosquitos. Berries are pretty bad too if they're ripe enough.
