Canada pens free trade deal with 4 European nations
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...hub=TopStories
Quote:
Canada has penned a free trade deal with four small European nations after nine years of talks, International Trade Minister David Emerson announced Thursday.
The agreement, with the European Free Trade Association, is the first deal of its kind in six years and the first ever with European nations.
Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland currently conduct about $11 billion in two-way trade with Canada.
|
...
Quote:
The deal provides a phase-out of Canada's tariff over a 15-year period, with a grace period of three years before any cuts begin.
|
...
Quote:
Emerson also announced that Ottawa is launching free trade talks with Colombia, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and the Caribbean community.

I've always thought that they should go for the EU instead of NAFTA. Expand their horizons!

I always thought that "Liechtenstein" was a made up country for "A Knight's Tale". Guess I was wrong.

The Swiss invaded Liechtenstein recently.
Quote:
According to the Swiss daily Blick, around 170 infantry soldiers from the famously neutral country wandered more than a mile across the unmarked border with the tiny principality.
The incident happened yesterday morning and the Swiss troops turned back - probably slightly sheepishly - after they realised their mistake.
|
They probably want Canada to be peacekeepers there.

All four of those countries are non-EU countries, for those who don't know.
A free trade deal with any of the EU countries would have to be approved by the EU itself, I believe. Canada appears to have a special relationship with the EU, but that is not official in any way, and certianly not an indication of free trade capabilities with them.

Hopefully this sheds a little light on the "stay the *&%$ away from our natural resources" topic with the U.S.

Couldn't you just rob the corner store for more chocolate and cut out that second step?
