Ha, yeah. We gonna hoard em all!!!! This wasnt the most soild trade ever but Im always up for a gamble. Thornton was takin up too much cap and with a risky Nolan around there is no need for him. ODonnell is a soild D but his OV is boosted by EX and LD. With our depth at D he was expendable.
With the NHL Avs history with young players its always a good gamble to take one of them on. Richardson played third line center to Arnason and Laperierre and is projected to eventually be a second liner. At just 0.85 this year hes a cheap, playable young (21) forward and that is what we needed.
As for Nolan, well, like I said, Im always up for a gamble. He did play 76 games and saw second line duty for the NHL Yotes. He is only 34 and got better as the year progressed I think.
I guess we will see how it all shakes out. In the meantime we get a forward back for ODonnell with roughly the same OV and get Richardson for potential waiver-fodder Thornton. Plus we save 1.5 MILL on the deal. Almost enough to resign Denis!!!!
