It is justice. This man did horrific things to other human beings. Society should be willing to sacrifice some small amount to bring them in, even if it is 60 years after the fact.
It's really symbolic, more than anything, but I'd say a pretty powerful symbol.

Not that I'm advocating war criminals, jut that at 93+ I'm not sure what the search is even supposed to do. He'll die before the trial is over.
It's to hold someone accountable for horrific crimes no matter what. It's an important thing to pursue. I don't care if they are 95 or 25 the person needs to answer for these crimes against humanity.
