World Health Club/GoodLife Fitness Club Prices.....
Does anyone know what a basic run of the mill membership costs at either of these places? their respective websites are useless for finding a price. The receptionists who answer the phone are clueless as to what a membership costs so I figured I'd come to trusty old CalgaryPuck where no question is left unanswered. Thanks for you answers in advance

They wont give you prices over the phone......its kinda like dealing with car salesmen you gotta go in and see them. And be sure to read the fine print if you sign up.Most times it'll be for a year, about 60 bucks a month at World Health.

That sounds like a strange process. I belong to a fitness club here in High River and i pay $90 for 3 months - rates posted when you enter the door. It's not the Ritz Carlton of fitness centers but it good enough for what most people want.

he's probably right. I used to go to Gold's and the YMCA (which for all intents and purposes was the same as WHC, when getting a straight fitness membership)...it cost me between $50-$60 per month, depending on the term of the deal...
Don't forget about the initiation fee.

I agree, he probably right. I just don't understand why they have to make such a big production out of it. If a person phones tell them what the rates are.

I was paying $40 a month while I was at WHC. I broke my hand last summer playing soccer and didn't go to the gym for awhile...probably about 6 weeks and they wouldn't stop calling me. I told them about the situation and they continued to harass me.
I canceled my pass after that and started to take advantage of my alumni benefits at the U of C.

exactly what I was thinking but nope the Woman sitting at the desk was lacking the proper knowledge to even know how much a membership costs at her health club, in most jobs if you didn't know the price of the product you were selling you'd get fired pretty quickly.

I was paying about $50/month at WHC about 1 1/2 years ago when living in Calgary. Prices in Victoria are much cheaper(not that it helps you) I was shocked compared to what I was paying in Calgary.

I go to Club Fit(which has been voted Edmonton's best gym the past three years) and I pay $38/month. $60/month is outrageous, unless it has extra add-ons(ie basketball court, racquetball court, pool, etc)

I like my YMCA membership. If you have kids it gives you first dibs on all their recreation classes (swimming, wall climbing, winter and summer camps, etc...), additional discounts on all classes and access to all YMCA's nation wide (more importantly the four locations in Calgary). It costs me about 53$ a month and it has been more than worth it for me so far.

Also depending on where you work you can get corporate deals. Sometimes it money off per month or no start up fee. So depending on where you work, I would ask about that.

I also phoned Golds over by the old Ikea the other day,and the young lady who answered said"we don't discuss memberships over the phone"Which is ridiculous,I'm not really concerned about the monthly cost,I just dont want to sign up for a full year as I work away quite a bit.I'd like to just by a month at a time.

What is the U of C alumni rate for that gym? Its a little far away for me, but if its significantly cheaper than $53 a month, it might be worth looking at.

For just the gym, you're looking at about $40 but I have an all access pass which includes all of the courts, oval, the climbing wall etc. I pay $52. I use the other facilities more so than the gym, so that membership comes in handy for me.

Alumni or not...the U of C is the best gym in Calgary. They have decent prices and have a lot of facilities.
I love running around the Oval.
I think it is about $400ish dollars for the year.

Have they upgraded it recently? I havent lived in the city since the summer of '04 so I dont know whats changed, but I went to Mount Royal College from 2002-04 and they had just finished renovating it, and I was told at that time that it was superior to the UofC after all the renovations. Awesome, awesome gym when you consider all the extras that come with it(racquetball, basketball court, great track upstairs, steamroom, pool & hot tub). And to add to all that, it seriously has the most perfectly temperatured pool I've ever been in. Man do I miss that gym. I dont know what rates are like there as I was always a student, but if you live around the area you should consider checking it out.
