Today is Calgary's first annual "Bike to Work Day"
http://tinyurl.com/27oygq
Who's the genius who decided it would be a great idea to do this in April?

Since I bike everyday, rain or shine, it's a bit moot for me, but I was pleasantly suprised this morning when I saw the pathway volunteers.
Partakers were definately way down with the weather. I think they were giving loot to "The Bipeds" as well just to get rid of some of the stuff.
I just wish the building owners and City parking lots would have better parking solutions for us cyclists. That and a good way to get across downtown north-south without battling motorists.

I'm pretty hard core on the cycling myself, but having just switched over to the slick tires I wasn't going to pedal the 18km in on snow.
I'm very lucky in that our building has a bike cage and a locker room with showers for all of us who commute in. As for the north south thing, I take either the path or use 4th or Centre St coming down. Traffic needs to deal with the fact that cyclists are here to stay, especially with increased gas and parking prices.

Not only is the weather bad, today is also "4/20 Day". Celebrants will be in no mood for cycling to and from work. Hell, they probably won't even go to work.

I saw them handing out things under the 10th street LRT bridge this morning.....Seems sort of redundant to be giving things out to cyclists and pedestrians when they should be going car-to-car giving panphlets on green commuting during the rush hour lock. But that's just my opinion....

Do you run studded in the winter? I used semi-slicks (IRC Advantage) on my MTB all winter and it was fine. I read somewhere that knobbies gave the same level of traction as semi's in deep snow (lugs get clogged) so tread doesn't matter. Studs get skittish on concrete as I understand so I avoided them too.
Our office has a cage, but it gets stupid packed in Summer. While the other cage they built is used as storage for the cleaners...

Just rode my motorbike home from work, nice and cheap at around 80 cents each way.
I don't trust Calgary drivers enough to share the road with them on a pedal bike.

On the first annual "Bike to Work Day", I bought a car, just so we could drive two to work....well ok that's not why I bought it. I bought it earlier this week, and picked it up today, so the driving 2 cars thing just kind of happened.

I just ride knobbies in the winter. Studs wouldn't do much good I don't think. They'd slow me down too much.
I'd talk to building management about the cleaner crap. Our cage is getting super busy as well. Just got panniers and my back feels better already.
