Default “Tea Tea” or “Tie Tie”

Ok some of my friends and I are in a lively debate about how to pronounce the name of the Vietnamese sub restaurant on 8th ave there is also a new one on 130th ave SE

It is spelled Thi Thi I say it’s pronounced “Tea Tea” they say it’s “Tie Tie”

Other people I have asked say there is a place called “Thai Thai” on 17th ave so that could be where the discrepancy comes from but I am talking about this place

Thoughts?

Oh and it’s a great place I would recommend it to anyone

Here's a guide I found on Thai pronunciation: http://www.thailao.net/thaiphon.htm

If I'm reading it right, that page seems to say it's "TIH TIH" but I really have no idea.

It says 'i' by itself is pronounced like the i in bit.

^^but it's not Thai, it's vietnamese.
It think that's where the confusion comes from. People think of Thai and say it that way.

That is what I think as well, it just doesn’t seem logical that a Vietnamese sub place would be named Thai Thai

Oh man, I'm an idiot. I should have read that a little more carefully!

Here ya go then:

Lively debate? Haha it wasn't lively at all! I had no idea what restaurant you were talking about, but "tie tie" sounded a whole lot better! haha

Hey, I took that picture! I always find it funny when one of my pictures appears somewhere I least expect it. But nothing beats when Merle's Delicatessen used my photo of a Palace of Eats sandwich in thier ad.

But anyway, my understanding is that it is pronounced "Tea tea".

James.
