Default Passport

So I'm gonna go to Las Vegas for the first time in July for a buddy's bachelor party. I know that everyone needs a passport to go to the States now. What I'm wondering is how long is the process. Do I have to physically go to the Harry Hays building or can I downloan the forms online?

Also, I do have an expired passport so does this mean that I will have an easier time getting a new one or are there a couple steps that I can skip?

Do I need a new picture when I get a new passport?

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

If your passport is expired, you're hooped. If it wasn't then you could just renew it an you'd save some time.

As for doing it on line, unless you know a way to email an original, paper, signed picture, you're out of luck, and you'll need to go down to the office.

I sent mine January 23, and have yet to get mine back. I got a letter Friday saying 20 business days more to receive the passport, yet the fiance received his passport that day. Weird. We sent them in together.
I'd suggest going and wait in line. My mom did that a month ago, and got hers back in 3 weeks.

If you do it online you get to skip the first line at the office.
Some advice - go on a crappy weather day... less people will want to stand around in bad weather.
Also, go to the Shaunessey location, they are generally less busy overall.

You can mail it it if you want, but those apparently take FOREVER.

Dropping it off, mine was ready in a month.

Hope that helps.

You cannot "renew" a passport. The procedure is the same every time you apply for a passport, regardless of whether your current passport is expired or not.

Download the forms online, but take the completed forms in person to Harry Hays when you're done. It's a much quicker turnaround than mailing, plus the people can tell you if there's a problem with the app right away (ex. photo).

You will need a new photo, make sure you go to a place that clearly understands the requirements and can measure/size the photo before you leave to ensure it meets the strict requirements. I had mine done at AMA, they did a good job.

Also, you don't need a passport if you're a Canadian driving to the US. It's only for flights right now. The driving requirement kicks in Jan 1 2008 if memory serves.

yup

I mailed mine on January 10th and I finally got it back on April 7th, which is a damn good thing because I'm going on a school trip to Thailand on April 30th.
